I would think this stop sale would be a short duration if it's just for a oil filter issue. Also think some dealers are using this to their advantage when inquiring about pricing - yelling no allocations available. I'll wait a bit.

So just talked to a contact at the Perf Center, and they said the stop sale would not affect builds, as it doesn't even come into play until the car has a VIN, and in this case the remedy is just an oil change. Apparently, however, the system is currently down (my CA and my contact both said it just sits there spinning) so it is possible they are fixing issues.

As far as allocations, I do know based on a screen shot from my dealer, that there are only 27 allocations in the entire country for M50is, and some entire states don't have any.

Quick update. Apparently both of the allocations for my dealer were locked, even in 111 status. Had to be either a supply issue for my build that blocked the changes, or the extended Merino individual option locked them in. Long story short, they got one opened back up and built to my spec. Fingers crossed that the build week moves up!

Wow this allocation shortage is crazy. It will be worth the wait, trust me

My local dealer usually has 20+ x5’s on the lot. They currently have 4 MY2020’s. Is the US getting cut back on production or something?

South Florida BMW dealerships have tons of in stock X5's , including M50i's. They are notoriously some of the worst dealers in the country, and maybe that's why they have so much on hand, but there is no shortage of in stock cars down here.

I saw a nice selection M50i at the dealers in the Tampa area. The problem is for this kind of scratch I want exactly what I want. And those cars on the lot don't fit the bill. So customer order is the way to go. And that means the wait is on!

I am in same boat. Placed a order but am being told on hold until
M50i allocation opens up. Have you run into that?

Congrads. How long did it take for your SA to get the allocation?

I wouldn't think all allocations are gone, just for that dealer and they're not wanting you to shop around. My dealer had 5 allocations, 3 were taken. Not sure how allocations work but check another dealer. It's well worth the wait but I understand the itch.

Yes, Thanks. Look like you had a little over a month from placing the order to it getting started.

Yes I have checked a couple dealers, including one I bought from previously, and allocations for the M50i seem tight. I'm getting a good deal from this one, so am going to sit tight for a couple weeks & keep following up on his allocations.

I know when I was talking with my dealer a couple of weeks ago (who had 2 allocations, one of which is now ours!) he pulled up the nationwide available allocations, and there were only 27. Some entire states didn't have a single allocation. So while they are out there, they aren't plentiful.

This could be a problem! I'm coming from an M3 lease that ends Mar 2019. I plan on the M50i next, and don't mind taking early, but wasn't quite ready.

Does anyone have any insights into this allocation shortfall, and when normal supply can be resumed? The dealers need to stop ordering so many off specs!

And since this allocation issue appears to be limited to the M50i. I'm guessing it may be engine related, as I have not heard of any 40i ordering issues. Maybe there are not many V8's coming in from Germany??

Wondering what’s the real reason here. The engine shortage? Save capacity for X5M? Oil filter?

Same here. My CA entered the build but it won't be confirmed by the factory until the new year. Is that normal?

I have my agreed upon deal sheet at least and he sent me the "unofficial" build.

Yours is x40i right? My build for 2020 x40i was submitted over a week ago, and I still haven't gotten past 047 status... no production number of course.

I'm beginning to think the CA isn't telling me the truth, which is that they probably don't have allocations for December and we're looking into January.

I am locking in a M50i order today and was told the car will go into production sometime late Jan/early Feb with an estimated late February completion + Performance Center delivery pushing it well into March...

Yes, x40i. Our dealer is out of allocations so they are submitting it the first week of January. Not sure how the whole process works so this may be naive...but did you get access to the BMW Garage? I don’t have that since my order hasn’t been accepted in the system yet.
