Winter tires or just buy the wheel/tire set?
Is it better to buy a wheel/tire set for the winter or tires itself? I'm looking at shopbmwUSA such as the M Performance 20 Inch Style 748M Black Cold Weather Wheel & Tire Set or separate tires of Pirelli from Tire Rack.
I have a 2021 BMW X5 xdrive40i. I was thinking of all-seasons for my staggered set up, but decided to just do summer and winter tires since South Korea doesnt seem to snow as heavily as some other countries. I'm becoming indecisive. Pros and cons of each? |

Swapping tires on wheels gets expensive over time, and also risks damaging the wheels when it's done. It doesn't need to snow for winter tires to be an advantage as they tend to have better grip as it gets quite cold, but a good all-season tire may be better on dry when it's cold out. So, it's sort of a toss-up if you don't see much of any snow.
I was in Korea for about a year, way back when, and it did get quite cold where I was, but we didn't see all that much snow or ice on the roads, so a good set of all-seasons MIGHT work for you. If you do see some snow, and the roads aren't well plowed, though, you'll be glad if you have some good winter tires. Keep in mind that 19" tires/wheels will be less expensive, and less likely to be damaged if you did hit something in the snow. |

Just make sure the wheels you buy have same/similar spec for fitment, can handle the weight of the vehicle and are from a reputable brand. |

Next question, is it ok for a staggered set up for winter wheels/tires? I'm looking at:

My tire and wheel guy recommends using a square (non-staggered) setup on winter tires as they tend to wear more (and unevenly) compared to summer or all-season tires. The square setup gives you more flexibility when rotating the tires.
FWIW I'm going with 22" staggered summer performance on my X5 and 20" aftermarket square setup for winter. If it were me I'd go with a smaller rim for winter than summer.

Part #
36112462595 M Performance 20 Inch Style 748M Black Cold Weather Wheel & Tire Set (comes with pirelli 20 inch run flats in this package). These black wheels would be a square set up. Would this be ok? Per the website this should fit my 2021 BMW X5 xdrive40i. I currently have red caliper M Sport brakes and the BMW OEM 21 inch staggered Y-spoke 741M style wheels with performance run flat tires. |

Looking at https://www.shopbmwusa.com/ACCESSORI...IRE-ASSEMBLIES it shows that those wheels will work with a 2021 X5 xDrive40i.
I may actually take a look at those. I was originally going to go aftermarket on winter wheels but I saw in another thread there is a 15% discount through Costcol. The other option is the 740M but I may stick with black.

That sounds awesome with Costco! I wish I could take advantage of that here in Costco South Korea lol. But yeah I was about to buy pirelli winter tires and change out the summer to winter tires and vice versa annually but calculated it'll be more cost effective long term to just buy a dedicated set of black winter wheels from bmw through a online dealer and buy the set for roughly $4,300. I usually keep my cars for 6-8 years. One car I had for almost 20 years lol it was a 2002 Hyundai Sante Fe SUV.
