Differential Fluid availability - backorder issue?

I dropped off my '24 X5MC for the break-in service this morning. An hour later, I got a call back from the dealership: the differential oil is not available and they do not see a path to getting more until sometime well into October!

They apparently will be reaching out to BMW on Monday to see if a special request can be made. They are also contacting other dealerships in the area to check if anybody has some but that does not look to be the case. Fingers crossed for a solution however the service manager at the dealership was fairly explicit that they don't want me putting a significant number of miles on the vehicle with the break-in fluids.

Wanted to post here to see if I can triangulate with other data points whether this is a local issue vs. national vs. dealer with poor planning capability.

The dealer told me that if there is a short wait (days) they will give me a loaner but if it's longer than that, then at most BMW would provide a car through Enterprise. (I have to admit, I'm not terribly excited about the prospect of making expensive payments on an X5 that sits grounded while I drive around in what I'm sure will be a bottom-end corporate-rate rental.)

You could probably just buy some form FCP Euro, Turner Motorsport or eBay if you wanted and get it overnighted if you're in a hurry. Here's the BMW P/N for the rear differential 83222447362. You need 1L but conveniently they are sold in 0.5L so you need 2. Maybe that makes the price less shocking at first glance.

An update - the dealer was able to source diff fluid via some arrangement with BMW NA so all is well - should be able to take care of this in a few days.

In the off chance this is a chronic issue, I’d encourage new owners scheduling a flush and replace to confirm stock of oil when making an appointment.

For now, all is well!

Just to close this out, I did have the fluids changed within a week of first being told about the backorder so the dealer was able to take care of the issue.

I did sent a sample of the motor oil off to Blackstone, just to see what they come back with.

From what I have read there are 3 separate compartments in the BMW M Differential.
The Center compartment is the Ring and Pinion gears. The outer ones are the Clutch packs. They use different oil.
At 1200 miles, on M Comp, the Center compartment is the only one changed.

The F85 X5M had that oddball three oil chamber rear differential which used two different fluids. The F95 X5M just uses one type of differential fluid like most differentials.
