Rap, Hip Hop Question
alright, dont laugh. I know nothing, like nothing about rap or hip hop. like nothing.
I been listening to metallica since i was like 9. but recently i realized that every time i have metallica running my car, i get this rush, i speed, and get a ticket. So i am trying to keep metallica exclusively for the gym, or work. Now I have tried classical music and what not before, i like it, but it gets boring after a few weeks, it's not for everyday music use IMO. I want to know what's nice to listen to. what's really cool?, i dont want hardcore shit that has no beat to it. aka i dont want like Tupac, i downloaded a couple of tupac and they're just not for me. I also hate usher kinda music, that's just plain gay to me. I tried standup comedies but got sick of them coz i heard em too many times. I went ahead and downloaded some stuff that i found funny more than anything, but i liked the beat for sure. Their accent is just hilarious tho: Sean Paul, Shaggy, Lil John, and Eminem. "skeet skeet" i mean whatever it says, i dont give a damn as long as there's a nice beat. i just dont want to sleep. in case you dont know me i get bored really easily What else do you recommend? (name the guy and a song, i'll be looking for them online to download.) Thanks yow yow!!! Last edited by !Xoible; 01-05-2008 at 05:04 PM.. |

I like Jazz in the car...
Funky stuff.. Agree about some music making you drive faster though... weird bu true. I listen to BBC radio 4 when I'm "at work" and that keeps me slow SJ |

Not rap or hip hop .. I prefer music ...
Mellow but very very good stuff for the car .. Try anything by Sigur Ros - preferably 'tak' You will have heard this song a million times on TV: Aqualung or Radiohead are also good: |

Hey mantis,
If u want to go down the hip-hop route, I would suggest something by Timbaland, his new album is a great success. The vids from his latest releases are below. If this is too Hip-Pop for you, perhaps some of Timbalands older stuff will be better, or Busta Rhymes; sounds violent, yes (most of the material is), but he does have some upbeat club tunes, which would definitely keep u awake! lol Like u say, dont listen to the lyrics, just enjoy the beat! Regards, TSL |

ok well if i was you i would try a band called Dream Theatre, go for the song called 'Pull me Under' my favourite band is Linkin Park, thats what i mostly drive to. Sure someof their stuff is not what your looking for, but you could try their latest album Minutes to Midnight which is lot calmer than their other stuff ... try 'Leave out all the rest' other wise i like listening to podcasts while i drive on the ipod, the opposite of getting reved up whilst driving imo. Chris

Try out some Tim Westwood (UK Radio 1 DJ) compiliations.
I'm sure you'll find a good mix of tunes - you might be able to download his podcast from Radio 1 but i'm sure his albums are available to download too.

Even though Eminem is more in your face, there's no denying the guy's talented IMHO, and it's quite amusing listening to him being generally grumpy in a rapper stylee! Quote:
Maybe try Jamiroquai (funk/jazz/pop sort of fusion - you'll either love it or absolutely hate it). All pretty mellow but has a good beat and tune usually. Also I like the Radio 1 Live Lounge compilations (try Amazon - they're not on iTunes) - they are full of musicians/bands covering each others' stuff in really different styles or doing their own stuff acoustic etc. Brilliant. I still think you can't beat the Foo Fighters though.... Actually for mellow I've got some of my son's nursery rhymes on iPod if you like And you'll never get tired of them, honest (until you ) Last edited by Bumps; 01-07-2008 at 03:18 PM.. |

Here's some of my favourites:
The Best of Paul McCartney & Wings - had more influence on music than the Beatles ever did ELO - Any of their live albums are brilliant, saw them at the Norwich Odeon in 1978 The Nolan Sisters - a proper girl band unlike the crappy Spice Girls Any 1980's Synth - like Gary Numan or the Human League, blokes with make-up can't half sing Any best of Power Ballads - Bonnie Tyler banging out her welsh mumblings in Total Eclipse of the Heart is an absolute belter |
