BMW Long Term Life & Reliability

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the BMW G05. For this question it will be based on a 2023 X5 40i. I know that with proper maintenance the x5 last pretty long and is reliable. But I want know how it does long term and reliability wise if you drive it hard. I’m talking about launching it, pulls, hard driving, but of course with it fully warmed up. So with the car fully warmed up and regular maintenance, and a couple launches and pulls a week, what’s the longevity, life span, and long term reliability for this model.

I don't think one can accurately predict the reliability of a car that has been subjected to harsher than normal use.

I do believe it's reasonable to expect with hard driving, aggressive launches, etc. that the likelihood of problems down the road increases. This is common with any machine.

While you may luck out and not have any problems at all, the data shows that the harder you run an engine, the chances of failure increase.

2020 X5 40i. 3 years and 10 months. 42k miles. No issue besides for driver door creaking resolved with tape. No electrical or engine issues. Routine maintence and just changed my sparks today with NGK. New surf filter. Feels like new. The B58 is reliable. Also, have the JB Plus on stock settings.

I don't know, you guys must have low expectation when it comes to reliability. Under normal usage, a few couple years old, under warranty period, no issue should be average case, right? If the car has catastrophic issue, it should be considered very unreliability, or poor quality of manufacturing.

Let' me ask OP, what does "long term" mean? 5 years, 10 years, 20 years? A couple of launch and pull per week is nothing for the engine. Each session probably last a few seconds only. Launch is bad for the transmission, which is always the weaker link.

I have a 2020 M50i with 26k mikes. Had been problem free until Friday when it died on the side of the road. BMW determined the fuel pump died. No big deal…. Went to get it yesterday and they noticed the transfer case was also shot. Now I’m a little nervous about the warranty ending in a few months. May have to u load it.

We have a 2021 sdrive 40i with 37k miles. In the past 2 months had a drivetrain malfunction which resulted in the 12volt battery and starter needing replacement. And currently it’s back at dealer due to a leak in the AC evaporator.

Prior to these issues we hadn’t experienced any repairs. Now I’m really contemplating getting an extended warranty or getting rid of it next year when hit 50k miles and the warranty expires.

2019 X40i. AC stopped cooling couple months ago and deemed to be a leak in the evaporator core. Looking at 6k to replace with dealer. My concern is that almost everything in front of the driver has to be removed to access evaporator. Turns out this is a fairly common issue. Happened 6 months outside warranty coverage so on my own.

I have a ton of gear head DNA but have never been able to get my hands around the "launching" thing outside of at a drag strip. There is just no reason to do this on a regular basis on public roads. Good hard acceleration for sure but the launch which puts a ton of undue stress on the driveline is really not what you want to do with great regularity.
