UK_X5 45e. Option heavy must be mad

I had a lovely 45e in January bought from the dealer forecourt with some great options pre specified, got a great deal on the price too after swapping out my i8 Roadster as it never got used.
Had a week using it when there was a problem which meant it went back for repairs with only 200 miles driven.
After a few exchanges with the dealer they accepted a return and gave me an even better deal on ordering a factory new X5 45e.

Ordered at the end of January 2021 for June 2021 delivery.

Here’s the full spec if anyone is interested:

https://configure.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/configid/t871ejf0

Dravit Grey
M sport
Technology plus pack
Comfort plus pack
B&W sound
Red brake callipers
Acoustic glass
Tow bar
Carbon fibre trim
Coffee/Black Extended Merino Leather
Visibility pack
Sky Lounge Panoramic Glass Sunroof

It’s a real pain having to wait but looking forward to getting back in.

what was the issue with the first 45e that necessitated its full return?

Couldn’t get the heater to work, aircon very cold but no heating.

After removing most of the HVAC along with some other items and 2 weeks in the workshop they said it was a broken wire behind one of the wheel arches.
By that time I’d already rejected the car.

At the discount I got, I thought why not.

I went for IAS, you went for the towbar etc. Some small differences really.

I really wanted the 22’s and the tow bar, the 21’s will have to do. Drew the line at IAS.

They have the acoustic glass + B&W sound as options once again? :O These weren't available between Jan and Feb...and still don't look like they're available as options?

Well....it’s on my order. In fact I added acoustic glass after reading on here how good it was. I did have the B&W sound on my previous car and it was a no brainier for this order. Sound and looks awesome.

Looking at the configurator it is still an option but that is in the UK. Maybe different elsewhere.

Ahhh - yeah, that's only for y'all it seems: neither is available here. :/ I may have to get the Focal drop-in upgrade since I couldn't get the B&W...but noone seems to have feedback/info on it so...yeah. :

Just updating this a little. I am expecting the car around the 1st week of June 2021. I’m not getting a confirmation of build/production number from the dealer as I want to try finding out from BMW Genius if the car has actually gone into build!!
I would have thought it would be about 2-3 days for build then a month or so for it to be shipped out to the UK.
As it’s a pita to be waiting adding any further waiting time would be even more frustrating. On the other hand 1st world problems so not so important in the scheme of things. I’ll send an email anyway.

Another update. Keeps me busy I suppose!!

Good news is that today the dealer has sent me the wheels are in motion as per attached picture.
The bad news is the Genius I had a chat with yesterday said its not in production until 7th May = end of next week.

Who to believe I wonder?

More to the point if any one in the UK has any idea on time scale from this point I would be most grateful.

Now left the factory. Any one know the journey from here?

Looking good for June delivery

Don’t all reply at once, I can’t handle it....

Not heard a thing from the dealer. Went to chat to Genius online and told it’s in the UK waiting customs clearance so must be getting close now.
Still poor form not to have been in touch in some way by the dealer even if they are mega busy. Who knows!!

Wrapping up the last 5-6 months waiting time I’ve finally collected the car.
Very happy with the results of my choices, the car is fabulous….

Bowers and Wilkins stereo with acoustic glass = awesome
Dravit Grey with red brake callipers = awesome
Coffee merino leather with carbon fibre interior = awesome

I’m going to take 2-3 days cleaning, applying a ceramic coating and bonding with the car. Sad I know….

Lovely looking spec, must say looks amazing! Mine's due Sep' and have booked it in to be detailed with a ceramic coating and some PPF for the window surrounds (the are like butter and swirl so easily). Enjoy the car!

Thanks. I’ve had 3 previous cars detailed before this, the last one I did myself as the paint quality was very good, as is this one. I’ve given it a good wash down today ready for a good polish when it’s dry then ceramic.
It’s going to be difficult keeping the swirls off the gloss black bits as you say will hopefully help with the coating.
I’m really pleased with the options, normally I’d be thinking I should’ve got this or that but didn’t hold back on this one and made up with the result.
I feel for your wait it’s a real PITA…. Was it worth it???

Of course.

Sent you a message. I think everyone buying a new car at the moment is probably getting ripped….especially a forecourt model.
Just ordered a new id3 as a second car, it’s at least £3000 cheaper to buy a new car and wait for delivery. The dealers were unable to touch Drive The Deal price (UK). Maybe give them a go?
