So I went into the dealer today because I was a little concerned about the HK disappearing off my build, but it being available in the builder. Lo and behold, we were able to just add the HK as a standalone feature to my build. Ordered 2/19, tentative production date of 4/14 (still showing order received now). Certainly not a guarantee, but definitely better than it not showing up at all.

Has anyone been able to add it along with Executive? My dealer is telling me that it can be added alongside Premium but not with Executive and that just seems a bit odd to me.

I added mine in addition to Premium 2 like OP

Just to be clear, it was not added to the premium package. It was added as an option. I think you got that, just making sure.

Right. What I'm asking is can HK be added along with Executive. My dealer tells me they cannot modify my order to add HK without removing Executive. They say it *can* be added alongside Premium.

Under the current supply constraints, this seems like a good mitigation strategy by BMW.

Remove HK from the Premium Package, as a majority of buyers won't notice or care.

Make it available as an add-on option for those buyers that want it (most of us here on Bimmerpost).

That is indeed what I'm hoping. By the way, forgot to mention I went out and listen to both the HK and base Hifi today. HK sounds better, and has the equalizer. But to say the base hifi is complete junk would be incorrect. I rent cars every month, I do not think I ever rented a car with a better base hi-fi than the X5. To me it is acceptable to listen to the radio on my commute. But the car buyer deserves better at 70 K plus.

Yeah the builder seems a bit buffy, I can't get added on a build. We just got our order details w/ production number today, and our Sales Assistant checked on HK availability and told us it is still unavailable, but we asked him to add note to include HK system if possible at time of build. Not sure that will help but worth a try.

Did you add the premium package? If so, you should be able to add HK as an option separately. Apparently this does not work when ordering executive package. And then it all remains to be seen what you really are going to get.

That must have been a problem with the website that has been fixed. You can get the Executive package and HK.

Yes, you can add now Premium package and the HK system. Just tried it. Now I will ask my SA if he had luck with adding it to my car.
It was in my build that I sign for it and it should be there.
Very bad way of doing business from BMW.
Lots of confusion and lack of communication and information from BMW, made a lot of customers lose a lot of time and caused a lot of frustration.
At least for me it did.
Did not expect this from a luxury brand.

Anyway, talked with the dealership today (Tuesday, 03-09-2021) and told them about the HK system being back as an option. They said a manager is trying to add it on my car and they will let me know if possible. Just checked “Mygarage” (12 PM in Fl) and the HK shows up as an Added Option on my car. Hope it will stay there.

My dealer contacted me Saturday stating they had an exact build coming in on yesterday as the one I ordered but included the HK system since it was already built prior to the change. It does not have the DAPP but after going back and forth, I decided I didn't even really need it.

So I am picking mine up today!

One key thing to understand about hardware and manufacturing: if you are missing even one part out of a hundred thousand parts on the bill of material (BOM), even if it is a less than $0.01 resistor or washer, production halts. Supply chain management and good upfront engineering ensuring component availability and flexibility are the thing that keeps a production line running. A missing chip, no matter the cost, is a major thing to miss.

Placed an order yesterday with Executive Package and HK as a standalone add-on. Order was accepted and I have a production number with HK. Dealer advised me to expect as long as a 2 month delay for selecting the HK option. Curious if anybody else who has ordered HK since it became a stand alone option again has heard similar.
