If autohold is out of adjustment, it can engage slightly before you come to a full stop, but otherwise, it is smooth.

If you are in hybrid or adaptive mode, and you hit the gas too hard, from a stop, where the engine would be off, it could be turning on. That’s not always easy to tell, but can be a little rougher than just moving off in EV mode.

Ya I've the same issue has Bmw come up with a solution yet?
It's a gear box issue, they re programmed mine and it's not bad but still not perfect
I had a 2020 x5 45e and traded up to 2021 there was no issue with my 2020 model it's the 2021 has the issue

I feel a mild "thud" or kind of like something heavy in the trunk that just moves when i start from sport mode. Don't feel it at all in electric/hybrid - very smooth

Way back when I was first learning to drive, the teacher was really big on 'smooth'. You could go fast, but you had to be smooth about it both straight, stopping, and around curves. He used an empty glass milk bottle (guess I'm aging myself!) on the floor, and each time you tipped it over, you lost five points from the day's score. This smooth application of the gas and going around turns has carried on. You'd be surprised how much longer brakes and tires last if you're smooth in your driving, and your passengers will appreciate it, too.

They told me that they had the same complaints coming from some i3 owners. Apparently, they link this to an "energy spike" when you press the accelerator too quickly. The solution: adapt my driving style to the car.
I would except that, absolute rubbish, I had a 2020 x5 45e and there was no issue but in my 2021 it still has problems with acceleration
