AlpineG05 and snickryder - Now that you both have had the M Performance Exhaust for at lease a few months, do you have any updated thoughts on it?
Would you do it again or would you do something else? |

I've had mine on for 14 months and 16.5k miles. Wouldn't change a thing, it's perfect!

Thanks for the responses rocket and snickryder. I will add the MPE to my list.

No regrets at all. I received several compliments from the employees at the dealership. I was definitely on the fence because of the price. However, the car sounds so much better.

Thanks alpine. Do you get the crackles/burps or whatever they're officially called. I don't mind them every once in a while, but I think if it happened all the time it would be annoying.

Yes, but only when I'm coming to a dead stop. It's not annoyingly loud. I actually enjoy hearing it.

Just want to bump this thread a bit because I can't really see a clear answer:
My understanding is: the "M Sport Exhaust System" and "M Performance Exhaust" are two different things, the M50i comes with the M Sport Exhaust System and is not compatible with the M Performance Exhaust, and they're two different (sounding) systems. Is that correct? Or are they actually the same thing? |

TBH it's not loud enough. It's great fun but it'll be more fun with a sport downpipe with HFC's.

It's strange because the website claims it's compatible with the M50i if I choose the car in the dropdown area.

Linking both: Stock https://www.bmwpartshub.com/v-2021-b...ust-components M Performance https://www.bmwpartspros.com/p-bmw-m...ne-18302458780 Has anyone taken steps to cut out the resonator on the stock M Sport exhaust to see what it sounds like? Figuring out how to make this sound decent, while keeping things straight-forward and cost-effective. Context on why I am exploring the cheap route on a not-so-cheap vehicle... I used to have an Akrapovic exhaust with a catless downpipe on a 4 series - it sounded absolutely glorious - tame when you want, and an animal when in sport. I sold the Akra exhaust as I was planning on selling the car. Bringing the vehicle back to stock meant I had an M performance exhaust while I waited to sell. I was in no real rush to sell, so I had the car for a while and continued to enjoy it. It was super quiet. Way too quiet. No emotion at all. I decided to delete the resonator as an experiment to see how that sounded, given the Akra exhaust didn't have a resonator anyway (easy to revert back to stock be having the resonator welded back in as well). Outcome: It sounded fantastic after I deleted the resonator, with the M performance exhaust and catless downpipe. Probably 99% the same as when I had the Akra exhaust and catless downpipe.
