Engine light back on the 50e... Scanned it and got this

Code P0D9A

High-voltage charging socket, temperature sensor N: Signal implausible

Back to dealer this week... Not very happy about this.

Our engine light just went on today in our 50e. We’ve had the car for just three weeks and it only has a bit over 500 miles on it. Will try and get to dealer to see what the issue is. Not a great look.

Don’t have a scanner tool that works with this car.

At this point everything is concentrated in this thread, the other one was about a lemon in Canada I suggested he waits until his car gets fixed.. but our problem with the valve seems like it's going to be a factory recall.

I would suggest for anybody who is about to take delivery of a 50e not to until BMW sorts this out.

This reminds me of the active grill shutter problem in earlier G01 cars

Think at this point we are gonna expect a SIB and specific part warranty extension if not a full recall…

Feel it would at least take a few more month for the part to be re-designed. My guess is those cars with updated component won’t hit the market before end of year considering engineering analysis, design, production time

UPDATE: brought the 50e in to the dealer this morning to have the check engine light checked and was told by the SA that it was indeed the same issue mentioned above and the car was not safe to operate. Refrigerant shut off valve for the high voltage battery unit and that the part is on backorder for 3 months.

The SA came to me, quite non-chalantly, and proceeded to tell me in front of other customers what the issue and timeline were (probably not a good move imho, in case anyone from BMW is listening, maybe have this conversation in a more private setting, lady next to me was noticeably surprised to hear what she was hearing). He stated that they had a Enterprise rental car for me to hold me over. Period. Not great news to receive that your $90k three week old car is going to be down for three months, oh and just sitting outside in the elements waiting for a part.

Needless to say, I was less that thrilled, (more with the dealer’s handling of the situation) and asked to speak to someone higher up. Ended up getting an audience with the head of service who told me that they expect the timeline to go much faster and that I was the third car they’ve had this happen to and the last one they got turned around in three days. Apparently BMW pulled the part off an in-production vehicle and shipped it out. They think it’s a bad batch of this one part so might not affect every car, hence why there has not been a recall… yet. But they are taking the approach of under promising and over delivering I guess.

I also pushed back on the rental car as a short term solution and eventually got them to set me up with a BMW loaner. Base model ‘24 x5. Much better than a random enterprise rental.

If the car does end up taking three months to fix, I will be pushing BMW for compensation of some kind and the head of service believes BMW will provide. Having that kind of change tied up in an asset I can’t use and continues to depreciate on their lot because of a bad part is not a good look for them.

Will continue to keep the thread posted…

Good advice. I was going to place a order for the 50e over the weekend after spending the last week haggling with the stealer over the price.

However, after reading about these issues I decided to not place the order and wait and see.

I hope they fix this issue fast, I got a '24 X6 with 1000 miles as a loaner and I really miss the 50e. I wouldn't trade it for this one or a regular X5.

Agree. The 50e is an awesome car. Just sounds like a faulty supplier part. I’m sure BMW will arrive at a solution soon. Just sucks the car isn’t safe to drive in meantime.

So it could be a bad batch and not a design issue. That's not that bad. haha! we have to be positive!

This is pedantic.

At a high level, the original idea that they have 30 days, not three issues, to make the consumer whole holds. And unless BMW USA has a production slot ready to go with the same parts available, a lawyer or well-educated consumer would make quick work of "or a replacement vehicle."

Legislation often is and none of that really has anything to do with my posts. All I, and another poster, was doing was correcting the misinformation that you posted. "In Florida, your car can only be in the shop for 30 days before they need to refund you." As shown on the Attorney General's website, there is a lot more to it than that.

Week 19 here. Had a Christmas tree show last week. I lost powersteering and all assist system up until I parked it a few hours and then everything was ok. Dealer scanned it. 42 errors starting first in the VTG module (transfer case).
Still at dealer. We’ll see what comes up. Faulty software or something else?

It's concerning to see this thread picking up momentum with all the replies from 50e owners.

My new 50e is at the dealer and I'm scheduled to take delivery this week. My fingers are crossed and hoping my vehicle doesn't have all these issues.
