Has anyone's 50e been successfully repaired?

I am another disappointed owner of a 2024 50e. And I'm wondering whether BMW will ever be able to completely correct the issues it's had.

First, the CEL came on after 6 weeks of ownership, and it took the dealership 6 weeks to fix the 'battery control module'.

Then, 2 months later (with 3900 miles on it), the car (and app) all at once delivered a series of crazy 'vehicle issues' messages, including "Engine oil over due since 7900 miles" and "Brake fluid overdue since August 2026". The messages cleared on their own a day later. However - fortunately, I had taken a screenshot of the messages on the app - and had proof to show the dealer.

Took it back to the dealer, and the service folks inexplicably found nothing wrong ("At this point, everything checks out") - and BMWNA told them they did not need to download any sort of update to the software.

Now, two weeks later, a "Drivetrain malfunction" message appeared. Back to the dealer. This time, they said 'we found a problem with the software and corrected it."

SO - my question is simple. Obviously, many owners have had similar experiences - particularly in the last half of 2023. Can anyone report that their car was successfully - and lastingly - repaired? If you've had similar issues fixed (i.e. CEL, drivetrain malfunction, etc). has your car then been reliable? And, if so, for how long?

These reliability issues are a terrible shame...because the car is otherwise a joy to drive.

I had my 50e since August 2023. Zero issues and no CEL *knocking on wood*

I'm curious if data is available what percentage of 50e users have these issues?

There was a poll done on this forum...but there's no way anyone - except BMW itself - can know the answer to that question. They know how many 50e's have been sold...and how many have been in for repair.

Nearly all the 50e owners who post on this forum are unhappy owners whose cars have had similar issues. People who haven't had issues with their 50e are less likely to be on the forum.

It's a tribute to the PR and marketing departments at BMW that this obviously major issue with the 50e has not been widely reported in the automotive media.

Mine had similar issues over a six month period (September-February). These involved a CCU replacement after the drivetrain malfunction bricked the vehicle, a couple of software updates, and finally, replacement of the SME and two wiring harnesses. After four weeks of trouble free driving, it was hit while parked and subsequently totaled. Excellent service and support from my dealer figured prominently in my decision to order an identical 2025 replacement (week 22 build).

Yikes....what a story. So, your insurance might have saved you the trouble of a dealer buy-back...

Sorry to be somewhat ignorant...what is the SME? And was that or the wiring harness somehow responsible for the electrical or software issues?

SME is the battery management unit. I’m assuming that the wiring harnesses were associated with it. I might have done better with the buy back, but it never had a chance to fail again.

On our poll that took out the forum bias as best it could, close to 50% of owners got a CEL and close to 30% got at least one and took it to the dealer. From talking with various dealer personnel that is pretty consistent with what they are seeing. One SA I talked to told me her husband wanted to buy a 50e and she talked him out of it due to the number of issues they are seeing. Like we have heard from members, they are seeing some continually coming back with an issue.

Close to 50% got a CEL. That's huge.
The 50e drives so much nicer than the 45e I had. Strange that the 50e has so much problems. The 45e didn't have all these issues.

Are 750e and 550e also impacted with all these problems?

As for myself, the 50e got a few errors but the rest is working all fine after a few software updates. My wife is happy.
