It was for the most part amicable... at least from a financial standpoint. We didnt own a bunch of shit together so we just kind of said whats mine is mine and yours is yours. I let her keep all the furniture and stuff cause I didnt want it and was just happy to get out to be honest. And I am SO much happier now.

I'm still married after 10 years.

I think I spent about $12K or so, but I sort of had to. As those who know me a little from the forums, you can easily imagine that it's tough being married to someone like me, and I wanted to acknowledge that with the ring I bought her. Compensation, for everything I put her through if you will.

My wife thankfully didn't want a diamond or anything super fancy. So I bought her a fancy custom diamond ring. Turns out every girl like getting complimented on their rings... the important part is they don't expect it.

Well, while you are not sure, after 10 years, I can conclusively state for certain that I didn't spend enough. But who could have known back then??? And now, well, now is too late to change the ring.

Now she's just banking on a life changing insurance payout when I eventually die from something stupid I've just done. The nice thing about that is the constant surprise of never knowing when it could happen. It could be today. Could be tomorrow. Could be 40 years down the road.

But it's the hope that it happens in the short term that keeps her around. I'm convinced of it.

Fun thread update. In the US the average marriage lasts 8 years.

I've been married for 2 years now together for 6.

I think by 8 years married we will just each get a new boyfriend/girlfriend rather than get divorced.

Agreed. Lots of instagram people promoting how awesome and great their life is, when most of the time it is quite the opposite in reality. It's an interesting world we live in, and I'm just old enough to remember when none of this existed. "fake it till you make it" is a real thing now.
