My mom, Lien, went into surgery to remove a tumor in her uterus last Wednesday. The doctor stopped at the pre-op table because something didn't look right. They then started full scans of her body and found cancer in her lungs. They immediately stopped surgery and did biopsies. My brother and I flew to Arizona from MD/Va immediately

Thursday they determined it was stage4. Unknown type.

Yesterday we met the doctor. It's leiomyosarcoma (LMS). And it's aggressive and absolutely horrible. She starts chemo tomorrow and docs said there's little chance because of how far it has spread already.

She's 61 and the most silly, loving, absent minded mother ever. And I love her. It's hard to see my dad go through this and now all he keeps saying is he will join her in heaven soon and he has no reason to be here without her. She doesn't work so the only reason he won't quit his job this very instant is to keep her insurance til the last moment. Then he will quit and wait for his time.

I ask for any prayers to fight this cancer. For the strength of our family and friends to get through this

Terrible news bro. Will pray for your mom and family. What's her first name?

People can come back from stage 4, not all hope is lost. Try and stay positive some how.

I'm not either but it's all my mom has left and I go to church with her for the first time in years so she can hold my hand and pray

Ty. Slim chance but we are all hoping for that lottery. Her name is Lien, added to the post. Even if it was a 90% chance to recovery it's still so scary

I will pray for you mom. I know how bad things can get with cancer as I personally have gone through two primary cancer situations. I suggest you reach out to the cancer center to see if they have a social worker on staff. It's important to line up avenues to help everyone in the immediate family. Also check with the area chapter of the American Cancer Society for any support/resources.

From the medical treatment side, make sure you get copies of all scans on CD along with reports from the radiologist, surgeon, oncologist, and pathology. You will want these to cut down on the time to obtain them later if you all decide to seek a second opinion. Lastly, if you're interested, contact me via PM for a resource I have at NIH/NCI in Bethesda, MD. My contact there is a patient liaison for those with advanced stage cancer looking for alternative/experimental treatments.

I'm not a doctor, but did you ask if Radiation is an option? There's amazing technology out there, CyberKnife, TomoTherapy etc.

Just went through the same situation as you. My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer with tumors in the ovaries, uterus, (basically every single thing that a women has down there) and almost 1.5 years later she is still alive with no tumors/normal tumor marker off chemo for over 6 months. I used to live in Vermont and the doctors up there told her she's not going to live for more than 3 weeks, said they where unable to operate and much more bs. A few phone calls later we moved down to Orange County, CA the next day and my mom went to UCI medical center, surgery done, ALL tumors removed, and chemotherapy to start. (This was done within a week of being diagnosed with stage 4). Keep your head high, doctors are lazy these days and are just waiting to hit their retirement. You need to travel to get good service from the very few who actually like doing their job, saving lives. There are doctors out there that will take such a risk to do an operation even if if there's a low chance (like the 14% they gave to my mom) of living just so they can have the satisfaction of saving a life/family. I can tell you my mom is back to 100% doing all the activities she was doing before this and she's going to be working back in the pharmacy again. Best of luck through this. If my mom can do it, I'm positive your mom can too, and my mom is 57. PM me if you need someone to talk too or any questions.

Radiation isn't an option due to the spread. They'd have to radiate her whole torso and that would kill her
