Fancy Bear/Cozy Bear hack Burisma?

Sorry, tried to find a more palatable source, but all other reporting seems to simply be links to this article.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/13/u...a-ukraine.html

...“The attacks were successful,” said Oren Falkowitz, a co-founder of Area 1, who previously served at the National Security Agency. Mr. Falkowitz’s firm maintains a network of sensors on web servers around the globe — many known to be used by state-sponsored hackers — which gives the firm a front-row seat to phishing attacks, and allows them to block attacks on their customers.

“The timing of the Russian campaign mirrors the G.R.U. hacks we saw in 2016 against the D.N.C. and John Podesta,” the Clinton campaign chairman, Mr. Falkowitz said. “Once again, they are stealing email credentials, in what we can only assume is a repeat of Russian interference in the last election.”
...

Seems the wind has definitely not been taken out of the GRU's sails on the cyber front.

I hope we are taking more precautions for our upcoming elections than we have in the past....

I've always been on the fence on this topic as hacking for ransom I see as inherently evil while hacking for information especially exposing corruption seems more in the gray for me.

So stealing is OK if it's done for a "good" reason? What if no evidence of corruption is found - back to black and white after the crime has already occurred?

Yeah, that's a hard no from me.

What was taken? They still have those emails. Is it theft if you over hear a conversation in a public space? (Which the internet is)

Information was taken. Yes, it's illegal.

Hacking is not "overhearing a conversation".

Stealing information and selectively releasing it in coordination with the election cycle is, however. I honestly can't believe you are even trying to argue this.

You think we're going to get the clear, unvarnished truth from the GRU?

No one is talking about Wikileaks. We're talking about the GRU apparently hacking Burisma.

It's illegal and you can bet your ass it wasn't done with the good of the USA in mind. If you believe otherwise, you're a moron. Full stop.

What seems odd to me, is that,we see reports of companies that have been "hacked" all the time, but it is very unusual for them to find the suspects or even know where they came from.

How is it that it is so easy to spot Russian Military hackers? Probably some of the most well funded hackers in the world.

So a reporter discovering information by an informant who leaking information is illegal? Or a memo just being left around? We have plenty of real world examples of company and government info getting out without someone accessing an unsecute data base

Sounds to me like they are "sure" it's Fancy Bear because of the methods used plus some other non-specified info.

Are they right? Who knows? It's certainly plausible, and someone evidently hacked Burisma, so...

You're too stupid to continue this conversation with. If you can't figure it out, I sure as hell won't try to explain it.

Goodbye.
