What cars did you cross shop? Current M3 owner
I currently own an 24 M3 CS and am getting a new Targa 4GTS soon. I have been thinking lately that a more practical set up would be to sell the M3 CS for an SUV. Love the M3 CS - but it's not the most practical DD without the cupholders and the Targa on the way.
I have always been a fan of the X5M - and this would be a great option for a DD. In my mind, I could trade the M3 for this. I am also looking at the Macan GTS, and RS6. Anyone else look at these? What cars did you cross-shop to end up with the X5M? Anything else I should be aware of? Ive never DD a SUV before but would think this would be an ideal setup Thank you!

the Macan GTS is a great car, it is MUCH smaller than an X5. A Cayenne is also smaller than an X5. We really liked the '24 X5MC but ended up going with a similarly priced '24 Cayenne S. We like the ride better and it's easier to get into and out of vs the X5MC (the large side skirts were an issue for my wife). The Cayenne S doesn't have the power of the X5MC, general handling is similar.
Note: my wife is very sensitive in the motion sickness department and she could not live with the non-M X5 ride. |

I traded a 2019 X3 M40i for the 2023 X5MC, but I had 2017 Ford Expedition King Ranch which I traded for the 2021 JGC SRT...no regerets

I really like the Macan but it's much smaller. Speedy little sucker and fun to drive; in my view a great car if you're good on the size.
Cayenne is another good choice; less fun than the Macan but a more useful size. In my opinion, price no object, the best car in the mid SUV segment. No one else does steering feel as well, the most options to customize to it to taste, etc. Start adding in price and it gets a little harder. The 60i would be the closest to an S in terms of specs, is an excellent car in it's own right, and as I configure them would leave 30k looking to get spent on something else. The SQ8 feels like it needs an update to me. Got some V8 goodness there but it's playing in a tough crowd. RSQ8 the same with needing an update; doesn't feel as potent as the M but it does relax more, might make a better daily. |
