Quick update: I finally got my windows tinted. After much research, and as many will state, there are a handful of top-notch window tints and finding a top installer is perhaps as important.
I went with Llumar IRX Series 35% on driver/passenger window and over all the rear factory tint. I didn't tint front windshield or pano. Looks fantastic. Llumar IRX is Llumars top nano ceramic tint (similar to Forumla One Stratos - same company) https://llumar.com/na/en/automotive/...t/ceramic/irx/ Post tint photos Last edited by dananelson1; 09-09-2022 at 11:05 AM.. I was reading and they say NJ laws don't don't allow any tinting in front windows. I guess since you did it in the fronts any issues with police? |

Depends on where you live in NJ and how dark you go. If they have their hands full with real crime, they won't bother you for tint. But, still no need to give them any reason to stop you anyways. I had my F15's fronts tinted 80% with heat rejection film, had no trouble. Did the same with the G05. as long as the front are significantly lighter, you should be fine. The rears, you can paint with black paint, they won't care.

Anyone ever had the dealer do the tint ? I know private tinting is best, but I have a couple reasons to keep it w/ the dealer. Just curious if anyone has done it. I heard having them do the pano will protect you from heat cracking in the rare event it happens.

Many thanks to dananelson1 for sharing the experiences and photos!
I ended up getting exactly the same tint, Llumar IRX 35% all around except for front windshield and roof, and I am extremely happy with the results! It meets all my requirements in terms of heat rejection, protection for baby in the back, driving safety and risk of being pulled over in California. The only thing I am still getting used to is the rear windshield vision at night. The visibility is fine, but it just feels like I have to pay more attention than before at night. I was actually debating between 35% vs 40% for that reason, but it turned out most of tint shops do not seem to carry the latter. Attaching some photos taken, I really like the rear tints that provide protection and privacy, but they do not look LIMO at all as one can still see through vaguely under certain lighting conditions. |
