Vehicle key missing? Won't start

Just got done washing my X5. Upon trying to pull it back into the garage, I get the key missing notification and the car will not start. It says to place the key next to the steering column, which did nothing. Thinking I had a low battery on the key fob, I tried key #2... same issue.

Both keys unlock, lock the car etc with no issues.

Any ideas? At this point, its DOA.

Right after I upgraded to 8.5, I got the same message. I'd to use my phone (digital key) to start the car. However, later in the eve, it worked fine and didn't get this error again.

This worked. Should I take it in just in case? It seems this is a common issue after I did a search.

depends. I’ve not seen this particular issue repeat itself for the others who had it. if it continues, or you experience other electrical gremlins, then a service visit to inspect that battery
