MSS Lowering Springs
Hey Guys I wanted to start a dedicated thread for people that have MSS lowering springs. I just got my X5m about 2 weeks ago and have read just about every post about these springs. If you have them can you please post a picture (Before & After if you have) and also say which setting it is on. Thanks!

+1 turn in front, +9 turns rear. RG Sport recommends +0 and +10 rear but I like a little less rake.

r33_rgsport I just received my set for M50i G05. I removed my rear shocks and set my MSS disc to 30mm from 0. Is it normal that even though I am dropping .784 of an inch that the 2 spring and disc are taller that the original rear springs I removed?

Longer spring than stock is not necessarily meant it will be higher. 2 different setup style and 2 different spring rates.

I am planning on lowering only 1.1 inch in the front so I have the adjust set 20mm up from 0 in the front and 30mm up from 0 in the rear. When I placed the original spring next to the MSS set up the MSS set up is a lot larger so I wanted to make sure I was setting everything up correct. I guess that once the weight is applied it will compress below the original spring length.

Where did you get that number on how much to preset the adjuster?
Easiest is to start with the lowest and adjust it up to your preferred drop. Instead of guessing too high and adjusting it downward. More tension on the spring, the harder it will to adjust it.

I looked at your test vehicle that you had 0 in the front and 10mm up from 0 in the rear. The specs for my MSS springs rate 0-50mm drop so I started from the bottom and went up 20mm for a 30mm drop in the front and went from 0 to 30mm up in the rear for a 20mm drop

If you feel comfortable with that number, then sure.

I think you are 3 hrs difference from me on the East coast so I was very surprised you responded! Thank you very much for your guidance and for all the help you have provide to others. I only purchased from my retailer because I received a military discount but they didn't know a thing about the product. If I was at least within 300 miles of your shop I would give you all my business! Thanks again!

I just wanted to post an update: I just had MSS springs installed on my 23 X5MC 3 days ago. Although I've noticed an improvement in the ride quality, I'm extremely disappointed in the lowered height. For most of us the primary objective of installing springs is to reduce the wheel gap, and after installation I still have a gap of 2.5" on the lowest setting!!
I've been working with Ben at RG Sports and he confirmed that the installation is correct and he agrees that this is not acceptable. He stated that this was a new batch of springs for MSS from the UK and there may be an issue. Extremely disappointed! $3k for no cosmetic change! |
