Exhaust flap after upgrade to 03/2020
My MY19 50i was on 07/2019 before the update this week. Normally, the exhaust flap stays shut in comfort and stays open in sport once you tap the accelerator.
After the update, regardless of drive mode, the flap stays closed until you're under acceleration. There is noticeably less drone and bass in exhaust at idle and you can no longer flip drive modes and hear the flap click open / closed. I did plug-in Bimmerlink and was able to open and close the flap manually, so it is responding and functional. Anyone running either 11/2019 or 03/2020 that got a corresponding ISTEP update able to confirm how their flap actuates? Greatly appreciated. |

You can plug in an enet adapter with bimmerlink and control it manually via an iPhone app, and I used that to confirm the sound I was expecting really wasn't there. |

I know on my prior ///M, you could hear the flap open and close when engaging into sport, sport plus or back to efficiency. |

A question I have on my new M50i, when I use my coding device to open the flaps, it sounds like I am only opening the passenger side (right side). No clicking on the other side. Do you hear 2 clicks or simultaneous clicking? |

The actuators are identical. I am wondering if one is bad. When the right side is open, you can feel the exhaust coming out of the outside tailpipe. |

Now on 03/2020, sport mode ENABLES it to open, but it doesn't until you're revving and moving. Comfort it stays closed. I used Bimmerlink and did confirm that it still functions and clicks like I expected it to when manually triggered, and the dealership did the same with ISTA. The consensus was that it is different with the new software. I'm really disappointed as I love a little bassy drone of the exhaust with the V8. I use an ENET cable for coding since it's reliable and fast, but I just ordered a wireless OBDII adapter so I can use it to trigger the exhaust exclusively without pulling out the cable. |

My build date varied. When I tracked it, I had a date of 2/29 on Mdecoder but a couple days later a March date appeared. Thankfully I took screenshots to confirm the 2 different dates with same VIN. I will play around with it a little more to see if I can identify that it actually works on the driver side. If one opens with the app, both should. |

Hi hkleyman, I have a M50D with the March update and I think there's something similar happening to mine with the exhaust flaps but worse. Mine does a bad rattling noise at low speed and the service guys down were able to stop it by unplugging the flap (but don't know if it's open or closed).
I managed to compare with another M50D with the November software and it doesn't make the rattling noise at all: and it feels the engine is a lot more bass/less high pitch than mine which is not great either. Do the guys at your dealer have anyone else report your issue? do you think BMW can reverse the software update? (the guys down here don't think it's possible...) thanks!
