Windshield cracked

Has anyone had their windshield replaced? I was quoted 2.6k from the dealer just for the windshield and mounting hardware. I assume OEM glass is the best route to go. Or would safelite be a viable alternative?

My windshield cracked in my X5M and it was $3000 dollars for the dealer to replace it. I did it through insurance and only paid my deductible. The dealer billed my insurance company directly.
Safelite was about $500 less but same price to me with my deductible so I did it through my dealer.

oem is the best. The glass itself was close to 2K with HUD. I went to an authorized Geico glass installer and had it done there.

Non oem glass in the past has issues with blurry HUD. Not sure if thats still an issue.

Good call. Non-oem has complications with the wipers as well.

I have used both OEM and now aftermarket windshields in both my G30 and G05.

No noticeable difference other than price. HUD works great in both cars too, no issues at all.

$550 plus tax is what I paid in UT. Same windshield manufacturer that makes the X5 wi shields for BMW…

I believe you are referring to OE part not aftermarket. OE part is from the same manufacture of the OEM but doesn’t stamp the car company name. Someone can’t correct me if I am wrong

Who is the aftermarket manufacturer? My windshield is not broken, yet. If my past windshield history is any indicator of the future I will be needing a replacement before long.

The brand is Fuyao. Both my G30 and G05 have a Fuyao windshield, ordered and replaced by different shops so they may be the aftermarket of choice.

I’m told they are the supplier to the X5 plant in SC. I’m in a state where I don’t have glass insurance, so I’d have to make a comprehensive claim. Although it isn’t supposed to cause my premiums to increase, I have a $500 deductible to keep premiums low. So paying $550 out of pocket was a wash compared to $500 deductible - though if you have an insurance claim you could just have the dealer do it.

It is worth noting, Safelite was twice as much as the two other local shops I got quotes from, for aftermarket glass that probably would’ve been exactly the same as what I got, so shop around.

mine cracked two times but I had full casco warranty so it has been changed to the dealer and everything is fine.

This windshield get cracked too easy...I never could crack my F02 series or E60 even rock chips hit them very frequently.

Maybe the aftermarket glass has gotten better. Last year when i was researching windshields alot of members said the aftermarket windshields made the HUD blurry to the point it made them dizzy so i went with OEM glass by BMW installed by a Geico authorized installer. I have glass coverage so nothing out of pocket for me.
