I had BMW install it along with a bunch of other stuff. They covered the cost as part of my deal when I purchased the vehicle.

A wheel install is one of the easiest mods you can do. Just look up some Youtube videos.

I recently added some CF trim to my 911 steering wheel and it was more than I bargained for, because there was one electric connection that took me forever to reinstall. I did change the steering wheel on a 2014 X5 and that was pretty simple to do, I am guessing that they have changed the internal design some since then?

Does the whole wheel have to come off to change just this piece of trim?

It's going to be plug and play for this these wheels. For the LCI X5MC's at least, I don't have a pre-LCI so I'm not sure.

I’m wondering whether the pre-lci airbag will fit this LCI steering wheel… the shape of the airbag looks nearly identical

I went all out for a AZA wheel since several members on this forum recommended it. I wanted something that looked special but also did NOT lose any factory functions like heated steering and compatible with DAP.

It was expensive and took 3 months but at the end the final product was worth it.

This is my actual wheel

Good thing is you can come up with any combination of colors/materials you want and they can create it. This was the combo i wanted and it came out very oem+ looking imo

Wow! that wheel is sick!!

does anyone know where I can get that Carbon Y trim with the M Logo separately?

I have the autoteknic Alcantara one but the fitment is kind of off and it doesn't have the M Logo.

I wonder if this would fit the LCI X5MC.

Sick wheel Alan!

I explored the AZA route but boy they are costly. I would have only done leather and alcantara with M color stitching. But I was worried how the alcantara would hold up as a daily driver.

I think the biggest questions is if there air bag will fit.

Does anyone know the torque specs for the steering wheel for a 2022 x6m?

Is there an install video for the X5M LCI? All I can find are videos for the older models.

I did a steering wheel on my 911 recently and the Tq was 35 Ft/lb, I would imagine it is similar for the BMW.

Have they released this wheel for the X5M yet? I haven't hear or seen anything and I hope someone here has some more info. We've ben waiting for a good while it seems like.

See post page 1, post# 11 for the picture.

Not sure if the M4 one would work from page 2, post#33.

That is a nice looking steering wheel for sure but I offer this data point.

Some years ago I installed an M performance Alcantara steering wheel with a multifunction data read out and shift lights into my 2008 e90 M3.

Feels solid. Nice and fat. Looked fantastic.

But.

The Alcantra does not hold up well for daily use. Repeated use and sweaty hands will crush the fiber and make it loose its "fluffiness" to the point it becomes an eyesore.

In my race cars with real suede leather covered wheels the same thing happens, but over a longer period of time given its "seasonal" use totaling about 40 hours.

For a daily use application, leather would be a better material.

(The Alcantara is still very cool and has a lovely feel before it becomes matted down).

I always thought the M3/M4 steering wheels were alittle smaller in diameter compared to the X5's. can't remember where I read it.

Yeah, I wanted Alcantara before but now I just want the leather. I'm just trying to see if any options have dropped for the X5M other than the M4 one in the pervious post. I just hate that red 12 o'clock strip, it's hideous.

On the LCI, would the ACC distance control buttons work? I hate not having them on the stock wheel.

They are actually. Maybe they feel that way but yeah, when I switch to my m3 it feels smaller. It’s a 2021 m3 x tho so not sure if that’s a factor.
