Leaking Sky Lounge Roof?

Hi,

Has anyone came across a leaking sky lounge roof before? Purchased a 19 plate X5 a few weeks ago from a BMW dealership, had a few issues shall we say, then discovered this earlier when driving it in the torrential rain.

I've double checked the roof and it's shut properly etc.

Thanks

That's a "somewhat" common issue on the early G05 years, like yours. There are quite a few posts on the forum pertaining to the symptom, like yours, and the solution. As I recall, it was either from plugged sunroof drains or defective sunroof seals that seemed to have shrunk over time thereby leaving a gap for water to get it. Even so, if water gets in, the drains should adequately handle it so my bet would be plugged or partially plugged drains.

Do a search on the forum for it and you will find some nice details and helpful instructions. If you have a warranty, you could simply go complain to your dealer and let them sort it out

Front driver side roof vent is it? In the video it shows it :-)

Entire area around it is soaking wet.

I only purchased it a few weeks ago so I'll complain to the dealership, well add it to the list of issues I've had with the vehicle so far!

That's a microphone, you have or should have two, one for the driver and one just like it for the passenger.

I've just got my 22 plate back from the dealership, it's the 3rd time it's been in for a sunroof leak, from the microphone. This time they've changed every seal possible in the sunroof, under warranty. Let's hope it's 3rd time lucky.
Ask your dealership to check that the drain tubes aren't blocked, drivers and passenger sides.

4 weeks after I picked up my brand new ‘21 it got a leak that appeared at the microphone area above the driver’s head. It happened when it was only a misty rain. Took it to the dealer and they found that the moonroof’s cassette had a fine crack in it. None were available in the country at the time during Covid so it sat in the shop for 40 days waiting for a shipment to come from Germany. It was a manufacturer’s defect and no problem after that. It was a known issue.
