Can anyone explain what this is in G05 30d supposed to have it?

Can anyone explain what this is (see photo below) in G05 30d supposed to have it?

I think this is something that m50d supposed to have? I bought a used 30d and exhaust seems louder than normal at acceleration and noticed this device at the back. Anyway to code this device using bimmercode or esys?

It’s an external sound speaker device. Can make the car sound like a V8 or make it quieter depending on drive mode.

They are standard on 30d with the M-Sport+ pack in UK. Diesel vehicles only though.

Can make a 30d sound quite impressive but some don’t like as it’s fake noise…

Ah thanks makes sense, how do we turn it on or off? Which driving mode it is active?

I’m not sure you can turn it off, perhaps it can be coded off but not sure. I think it’s there in all drive modes but much more pronounced in Sport mode.

I’ve heard it quite mildly in Comfort mode when I’ve driven loan cars with it, some say it can be used to cancel out some of the less attractive diesel noise, much like how Bose sound cancelling headphones work. Not sure if BMW have implemented this, I’ve only been aware of the ‘fake’ V8 sound, particularly when moving at slow speeds.

There is an Engine Sounds setting that should affect both the internal and external sounds from what we have seen. Try Car->Settings->General Settings->Engine Settings->Engine Sound. That is the path I have seen in posts.
