335 procede vs 6.0L GTO

as posted by speedfreak81:

Well, most of you knew that this was happening this past weekend. First off, I must apologize because we didn't get NEARLY as many runs in as we would have liked. Also, kudos to Matt (Sniz) for driving all the way down from MD. Also, thanks to Paul (luckywales) for coming out as well! Unfortunately, the po po were out in FORCE.....I mean they were ALL over the place. So needless to say the situation was less than ideal for racing. We did the best we could though. We only were able to get 2 vids/races, and unfortunately they were both pretty dark and hard to see. I'm going to have my buddy look at them and see if there's anything he can do, and if so we'll post them up.

So here are the semi official results, lol. Best we could do fellas. I'm sure Sniz and luckywales will chime in too. I didn't have a chance to run against luckywales's stock 335, we figured with the limited amount of time...we'd better just get right to the nitty gritty. Both runs were done with a passenger to even things up as best we could. Me (205 lbs) and my fiance' (135 or so) in the GTO. Matt (180 ish?) and Paul (165ish?) in the 335i.

1st run from 20 or so in 1st gear. I honk it off and reacted faster and jumped out ahead, I think Matt may have hit the rev limiter in 1st (I'm sure he can correct me if I'm wrong) and we run it out into 4th with me a few cars ahead.

2nd run from a 40 or so roll in 2nd. I honk it off and it's dead even through 2nd, 3rd gear Matt inches on me slightly, and as soon as I went into 4th I pulled ahead and shut it down fairly immediately (probably 105-110mph or so). I was scared to go any faster than that with all the po po around. We probably saw at least 20 cops out that night.

After that we tried one more run, and I think he hit the rev limiter in 1st, and quit.....good thing too because about a minute later we realized there was a cop trailing us. After that we cruised and a few minutes later the cop decided he didn't want to wait around any longer and sped off in front of us. CLOSE call to say the least!! We decided that since the night was young, and we couldn't race anymore, we might as well grab a few beers. So we had a few brews, and some nachos mmmmmm and shot the **** for a while.

Matt and I both thought the races went down pretty much as we thought they would. The Procede 335i may have a slight advantage through 3rd gear, but in the higher gears and as speeds increase over 100mph the LS2 will pull ahead. I can't say how far ahead I would be.....I'm guessing by 130+mph I may have had 2-3 cars. Hopefully the next time we can get some better data for you guys. But.....until then, I'm putting my flamesuit on NOW! haahhaha

WOW Cleaner, it must be just me then, because I do see some style similarities between the 335i and the GTO (except for the rear end!!)

Sounds like it is a driver's race between the two.

ps I took a look at some of the posts over at gtoforums; looks like a pretty cool group of guys.

Both cars are 6 speeds manuals and his is completely stock.

Hmmm...interesting results to say the least; quite different results than what I've experienced the 2 times I've come across a GTO 6.0L; once on the street and once on the 1/4 mi. track. Anyway, I'm glad you guys had fun. btw -- Sniz...what's with the starting off from a 20mph roll in 1st gear (especially with PROcede)...are you out of your mind?

Like I posted in your original thread...

The only thing I can say is that when I went to my local 1/4 mi. drag strip, my PROcede 335i ran 13.097 sec. @ 106.67mph (1.9777sec. 60ft., and my highest trap was 107.15mph that night) while a stock GTO 6.0L ran in the low 14's, and my buddy in his stock 335i (w/ RFTs) ran 13.6-13.8sec. @ 102.xxmph (2.0xxsec. 60ft.) that very hot and humid night. I'm not saying that the GTOs are slow by any means; just that my PROcede 335i happen to be significantly faster that night on a so-so track in very hot and humid conditions. In addition, on another day, I ran with a GTO 6.0L with an exhaust and beat him from a 20mph roll - ~ 80mph by ~ 2 CLs.

yeah 20mph roll in 1st.........not the best idea. Nixed that one real quick and bumped it to 40mph in 2nd.

You may have run into some bad drivers or poorly running GTO's. Brian has ran his stock GTO a few times at the track and ran 106-109mph traps. Right with a good driver behind the wheels of a proceded 335.

The outcome was about what I was expecting, but anything can happen on the streets.

I don't know how good or bad their GTO's were running (or how good or bad the drivers were), but I do know they're very fast stock cars like the Chrysler/Dodge SRT-8s (which I've also beaten by 1.5+ CLs as well).

Wait for PROcede v2.0 and try another few runs with the same GTO 6.0L (if you can); you may see different results then with ~ 350+WHP (~ 420 BHP) / ~ 380 lb.-ft. RWTQ (~ 450 lb.-ft TQ)! Enjoy!`

Yup, just dial in some more horsepower with a software update :rocks:

We really need to know what your 335i does at the track to make a fair comparison here. I mean, I documented the times of many 500HP AMG Mercedes 1/4 mile runs. My stock 335i was very close to them in the 1/4 mile. I would like to know how the stock GTO owners do against the SL55, and CLS63 AMG Mercedes. Any GTOs in here actually race a 500HP AMG? I mean, they are supposed to be mid 12's, but actually ran mid-low 13's at LACR. Being that they are automatics, easy to launch, etc. I find it hard to believe that they are all bad drivers, and having bad runs...every time they went down that track. Especially when their best runs were pretty consistantly close. The 335i has its greatest advantage when starting from a standstill. This is why when I raced at LACR, my car was just as quick as many cars that had much higher MPH. You give up a lot of advantage in the 335i when racing from a roll. Again, at higher elevations, from what I have observed time after time, the GTO would not have a chance against a 335i. At sea level, the GTO has a slight advantage. With Procede...they shouldn't...but there seems to be a lot of inconsistant runs reported.

As with any vehicle, if it doesn't have the best driver behind the wheel, and the car isn't driven aggressively then the results will be sub par. Not taking anything away from your car......but I think you were racing sub par drivers. Every 05+ GTO with a 6 speed should be good for AT LEAST 107mph traps stock....and some even higher. The only time I went to the track BONE STOCK with 1,400 miles on the car I trapped between 107.5-109mph...but then again I'd say that I am an above average driver.

As for your race where you beat the GTO to 80 by 2 lengths, that's believable with a driver who isn't the greatest....Matt and I agreed that we think the Procede 335 has a SLIGHT advantage through 3rd gear...as he was inching on me ever so slightly. Once the GTO goes into 4th though it's a different story as speeds get higher and higher. Now, that being said, if you only went to 80mph....I could definitely believe your kill.

1/4 mile times are kind of irrelevant here. We raced from a roll, not a stop. That takes ET and launching skill out of the race and gives the outcome more to the potential of the car, rather than driver skill. Granted....how fast someone can shift has an impact, but not as much as when you're racing from a dig. Look more at the trap speeds of cars when comparing roll races.

Agreed...I can't wait to get v2.0 installed and run with another GTO 6.0L or two...he he. :rocks:

Sounds like it is a driver's race between the two.

ps I took a look at some of the posts over at gtoforums; looks like a pretty cool group of guys.

Maybe thats my issue, the grilles are BMW 6 series right down the the grille placement lower than the light (BMW 6) and the back window looks like Mercedes W209 CLK almost exactly. No way to argue it's a great car, I see a lot of them and they sound really good.

Hey Sniz,

I was supposed to come out and join you guys on Saturday night but had to be up @ 2 AM Sunday morning. We need to try it again sometime soon.

I recently upgraded to the 1.47 map after driving for months with the 1.3 map that was loaded when Shiv installed mine back in March. I do notice a difference between the two. What version are you running?
