Deep Scrape and and Scratch underneath side sill of car

I was stupid and was making a turn into a parking lot and hit a curb as the space was really tight. After checking underneath the car I was heartbroken and found a deep and long scrape. When I run my nail over it, it picks up the scratches. Will I need to take it to a paint specialist or do you guys think Meguiar's compound with wax can work? [IMG][/IMG]

If you can catch it with your nail you can't do much. You can reduce it, but you need paint, or paint touch ups. It'll definitely get better but not gone from polishing alone.

What he said.

If it’s underneath and you can’t see it unless you get on your knees and look for it, I suggest you leave it as is. Or else, touch up paint should do unless you want to spend more money repainting the entire area.

Yeah I guess just hurts being a car guy haha. I don't think meguiars would help on this as this is a pretty deep scratch. I guess I'll just leave it as is.

The big question is, had it gone through to the undercoat or even the metal. If the latter then you should get it repaired at a bmw paint shop because if it rusts through you are on your own for any paint warranty.

I understand. I had the exact same issue in my ex-A4. It bothered me initially but then in a few days, I forgot about it and didn’t do anything till my car was returned after lease.

The underside of the front bumper is plastic I believe.

Edit - Just noticed he mentioned side sill. My bad. Then yes. Some touch up paint would be nice.

Should I just go to BMW and get some touch up? I have no clue what to do haha. I might go to like Walmart and get some Meguiars compound to see how well it works. If that doesn't work as much, then I'll get touch up.

That looks like bare metal. You need to clean it up, touch it up, and seal it up. If not you're going to quickly start seeing rust especially given the location of the scratches.

Compounding might clean up the area a bit but it won’t get rid of the scratches that your nail catches.

Walmart might have a similar colour. No idea though. BMW might charge a bit for touch up paint. I have used dr colour chip before and it was pretty decent. Like I said, since it isn’t easily visible outside, that might be a good option.

Ya, I just got Meguiars ultimate compound and it made a huge difference. It's hard to notice now however the black bare metal is still noticeable if u run ur nail through the scrapes.

Yes I do except the cameras didn't even detect the curb I scraped until I scraped it.

Try meguiars m105 instead of ultimate compound, it's a lot stronger which you will probably need here, once it's as best you can get use dr color chip. You won't be able to see it unless you look for it.
