Credit where credit is due! In praise of Dealership.

In July I had posted a thread that during my inspection for state by a private inspection station they had observed dirty coolant and noted (erroneously perhaps) that differential oil change was past due on my new to me CPO 50i. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2035228

After a few email exchanges with the GM of the dealership - BMW of Fairfax (VA), they had asked me to bring in the car so they could take care of these items, and they did.

I was happy but didn't read through the receipt - I was very pleasantly surprised yesterday when I noted that they had not only flushed coolant but had also changed both differential and transfer case fluids! Wanted to give Kudos to the dealership. This is my second BMW from them and I would recommend them.
I had not so good experience with BMW of Alexandria so that I would not recommend at all.

The vehicle is now at 45K - when should I consider getting a transmission oil change? is a flush required or simple oil replacement is good?

Refreshing to read about a very positive BMW dealer experience. Glad things went well for you.

Thanks! We see a lot of complaints here regarding dealers. Understandably upset people want to share their experience. I reckoned why not share the good ones too

Like many, or perhaps most, dealer websites that maintenance schedule is not accurate for all vehicles. The transmission fluid change for example.

It is best to get the maintenance schedule for your specific MY and vehicle from the maintenance website.

According to BMW it is not recommended to do so. It is a lifetime fluid and should only be changed when repairs are made.

There are many argument, thread, video discussing these transmission “lifetime” fill, where most of them claim it is BS; even ZF (manufacture of the ZF8 transmission) advise changing it; however I believe most bmw owners would never even think about this service and we do not hear that many issues. Anyway, 45k sounds a bit early - I would personally would consider after at minimum 60k if I still intend to keep the vehicle for a few more years.

Thank you - I confirmed as much with my SA after questioning the suggested coolant change service. Our BMW's are indeed 'Conditioned Based Service' vehicles.
