Apple does not let you set a default assistant. I'm only surprised because BMW has seemingly been on the forefront of working with Apple to bring a lot of their features first, before Android and Amazon integrations, such as wireless CarPlay, CarKey, etc. that's why I made the comment why they wouldnt allow direct automations with the Apple shortcuts app.

I'm just not sure how the iphone will respond when the phone is locked and you're trying to trigger automations solely with siri. idk why BMW just didnt open up their app for siri like they did for Alexa.

When I say "Siri, open Amazon Alexa", her response is that I need to unlock my iPhone first. It forces you to swipe up on the lock screen to open the phone. Then the Alexa app will be in focus and you could speak the command if you turned on "Enable Alexa Hands-Free" under Device Settings, "Alexa on this Phone"

But that's more effort than just using Connected App. Better to buy the cheapest Echo device or a used one on Ebay.

Thank you but the issue is I'm always on the move and I don't have a stationary location on campus to plug in the echo.

But if the Alexa automation works better than connected that's good enough for me. Thank you all for explaining the concept.

My '21 X5 40i started by itself this morning in a closed garage. I was outside walking the dog when I heard a loud rumble coming from inside the house/garage. I was not happy when I opened the garage door to find the X5 running. I did not have any scheduled starts set up via dash controls or the remote app. I was able to stop it using the BMW Connected app.

This is extremely dangerous especially in homes with attached garages due to the potential for monoxide seepage into the dwelling. I called BMW corporate and their response was to take it in for a diagnostic scan. I will report this to the NHTSA on their website today. Has this happened to many others?

Make sure you have a strong password for your account, and it doesn't hurt to change it periodically. While not common, someone could be playing...

Have you ever used the app to remotely start the car? Maybe the BMW servers found your old remote command on the hard disk and decided to send it to the car, just in case I have heard of cases where very old SMS messages were resent to mobile phones (this was a long time ago, though).

The only thing I ever did on the app was to unlock the X5 once and that was 900 miles away from where it is garaged. To the dealer it goes so they can scan for errors in the log.

Some aspects may be hilarious, but carbon monoxide poisoning is nothing to laugh at.

2022 G80 owner here. Had my car remote start itself today as I was exiting. It did not show up in app history. I had shut the car off and was starting to get out when the car started with a blank screen. I shut it off and it indicates a remote start. I did not accidentally push the start button.

It was likely the key in your pocket. You pressed the button as you were moving to get out.

It's very unlikely if not impossible IMO. Seems like there's a glitch in the sw/fw as usual.

You will have to explain that to me and all of the other folks who have started the vehicle with the key in their pocket.

I'm disappointed... I thought you knew the car more, just less than Auricom.

That is an odd comment but you can be disappointed if you want to be although I'm not following your logic.

If you have it set up then you can remote start with three presses of the button. In my case when it happened to me I had my tractor key in my pocket and as I was getting out the vehicle started up. When I felt my pocket I found that the rubber dangle on the keychain was folded in front of my key fob against the front of my jeans. Moving evidently caused it to flex and press the button.

There is what I would call a bug, but you never can tell what their reasoning is, in that the vehicle does not need to be locked in order to remote start it with the key fob. When you shut off the vehicle and open the door you are sometimes able to remote start by hitting the lock button three times. In some instances the vehicle will shut off shortly, a few seconds, after starting but in others it continues to run.

Here is a little video I just did showing that you can remote start the vehicle with three clicks of the key fob lock button with the door open.

2020 X7 owner here, had the same problem happen to me this morning. The car was parked in the driveway my key and phone we're on the table in the living room. It was running and I had to enter the vehicle to turn it off. The remote app did not work. Never experienced this before.

I've alpine white and coffee - with the merino package (which is a must). Love the white..does 'hide' dirt a little better (parks outside). The Manhattan Green is sick - and rare.
Sorry…tough choice. But if you park in a garage, perhaps lean towards the MG. Mineral white is tough to touch up or god forbid match in a repair (from many posts here).

All personal and subjective though…. 🤣🤣

Besides other things mentioned on here the first thing to do is replace all key fob batteries. Weak voltage can send out garbage signals and unaided key bounce. Dealer is supposed to change at certain intervals but did they, did they use new batteries, did they have both key fobs.
