Wear items no longer covered under standard warranty?
I know regular service used to be free for new BMW within warranty, including brake pads etc. However, when I purchased the new G05 last June, I was told the wear items like brake pads are no longer covered, only things like oil change are still covered. In order to get the same experience I had with my old BMW, dealer charged me another $750 to buy the full coverage package. Is this normal these days or was I just scammed badly?

BMW changed what is covered under the free maintenance a couple of years ago. It went from four to three years and some items were removed from the list of covered items.

Thanks! Sounds like I paid $750 for the brake pads, wiper blades and corresponding labor for the next 3 years. Still feel scammed by the sales.

I thought the only change was brakes and wipers? I know TurtleBoy posted a list, but am I missing something? The wipers piss me off, since they try to fight you on replacing them...I can only imagine the brakes.

They changed it with model year 2017. It caused quite an uproar. I purposely ordered my 2016 435 so it would be one of the last ones fully covered by full warranty, but in hindsight it wasn't that big a deal.

Personally, UC+ has been worth it. My F15 needed front/rear brake jobs before turn lease turn in and the $600 I spent on UC+ back then saved me roughly $1200 in brake jobs. Doesn't seem like a scam to me. Also purchased UC+ for my 2020 G05 - to cover M Sport brakes. For most owners, UC+ isn't necessary.

It just depends on how you drive etc, if you are going to need a set of brakes and you are going to pay the dealer to change them, then $750 will save you some money, just the parts are $600 front and like $400 rear and if you have M-sport brakes, $1000 front and $500 rear plus labor, so even if you did them yourself it would cost more than $750.

Eh. I think it is margin play (i.e. - ripoff). I was similarly surprised on our current vehicle (2018 X5M, but I reluctantly purchased the add-on thinking it would be worth the brake job. Fast forward and I have not gotten anything beyond a set of wipers. The dealer did tell me last week that I would need brakes in around 4K miles, but they also didn’t offer to do it early, and my lease expires in March. It was basically a REALLY expensive set of wipers for me, and I don’t baby this rig at all, so I suspect that is common.

I try not to think about it much when she drives... She actually tracks time to time but sometimes I think she forgets where she is... lol See in the X5 she can turn on DAPP but the X3 is raw... The wheel issue is starbucks drive through...

wasn't an issue ... never got brakes during the lease and missed out on the "new" idrive 5 in 2017 vs. the idrive 4 in 2016 model year bought my 21 X5 ... plan to just do the brakes myself when they are in need of replacement. I have ISTA, so can do the required programming myself (apparently the caliper piston position needs to be re-learned ... wtf), and installing pads and rotors can be done by an 8 year-old its so simple ...so wasn't pre-paying for maintenance |
