Paint Protection Film
I'm new X5 owner and would appreciate some experienced advice. The dealer is offering a plastic paint protective file for the front (including headlights) end of my X5 xDrive40i. The file is Xpel Paint Protection Film Ultimate Plus. Is this something to consider.
I have questions about removing it in 5+ years. Durability, appearance, etc. Would really appreciate advice. |

the goal of ppf is mainly to protect from minor rock chips. a byproduct of this protection is the preservation of the paint surface underneath. removal is fairly easy, requiring a hot gun to soften the adhesive.
it may not increase the resale value in the future (or it might if sold privately). the investment is one's personal choice. do you care what the paint condition is like when you're done with it? if not, don't get it. do you want it to look as good as new for your duration of ownership? if so, get it. for me, it was transformative with a side dish of protection. I plan to keep it for a while. |

If you do decide to get PPF, I wouldn't go through the dealership. Find yourself a reputable shop that specializes in this type of install. Some places use pre cut pieces so you'll see lines, other places custom cut so the edges of the PPF is hidden...make sure you do your homework.
