If you really want to torture test it, put a ****y tune on it and overboost it, then run it for 50K doing full pulls without warm-up…

Porsche been doing it since decades and it's what toyota/subaru should have done with their gt86/brz engine, it's for testing oil starvation simulating an aggressive driving
Always nice to see tho

This will be a big improvement over the slant 6 that was in my parents’ Plymouth Volare was I started driving. The Japanese had some nice twin turbo V6 gas engines in the 90s. BMW started turbocharging I6 gas engines in 2007. The Dodge motor in its higher tune state looks like it will equal BMW’s highest output I6 turbo. Twin turbos, direct injection and multi valve heads are not simple but they are a lot of fun!

Let's see DOHC, DI, bore 84.0mm, 90.0mm stroke, closed deck, water-to-air intercooler, plasma transfer wire arc walls etc ... yep, Stellantis stole I6 from BMW. Pretty smart move as we all know B58/S58 is a masterpiece. And this can be had in a base truck starting at $43K MSRP - very impressive.

Not sure why you state Stellantis stole the Hurricane I6 (design, I guess) from BMW. It's not like BMW invented the I6 architecture or closed-deck design. Bore and stoke are similar, but how else does a design for a 3-liter engine not use near the same dimensions to make 6, half-liter cylinders for a near-square engine format?

Are Ford's V8's THAT different from GM's V8's?

Well, OHV is a pretty damn big difference compared to pushrod.

Yeah, Ford's small block pushrod, in production for 40 years (and still sold as a crate engine), was a lot different than GM small block pushrod of the same era(s).

Both make OHC V8s also. Do you think GM's LT6 cribbed from FoMoCo?

"Stole" was obviously a joke, but it's pretty hard to find more similar engines, even compassion ratios are within the specs Hurcane=9.5:1, S58=9.3:1, turbo to three cylinders configuration. They even got the same idea from BMW to use low and high output versions. There the high output got higher boots and more forged internals. Check the intercooler configuration looks very similar to S58.
If you know the more similar engine to the B58/S58 family you are welcome to correct me.

Emission control has driven convergence on a lot of things automotive. All the elements you pointed out have been used by auto and motorcycle makers for quite some time.

About 10 years ago Car & Driver published a great article on engine cylinder design. Automotive engineers discovered that the most efficient cylinder size is the half-liter (500cc) with slightly under-square bore/stoke ratio. This cylinder size and dimensions (approx. 80MM bore and 90MM stroke) provides for the most efficient burn of the fuel air ratio producing the highest power and lowest emissions.

So, it's not a coincidence the B58 and the Hurricane share near identical bore/stroke/compression ratio specs. It's why the industry is awash in 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engines; everybody's got one.

I realize that there is nothing new under the sun, and all internal combustion engines share the same principles under stricter emissions. But those two are the most similar engines I have seen yet.
S58=2,993 cc
Hurricane=2,993 cc

Out of morbid self loathing, I built a 2025 ram with the HO I6 which meant it had to be a limited not a Laramie. It worked out to $92k. That's insane and they can f right off with that. I paid under 50k for my then new f150 platinum that was fully loaded in 2015. I get inflation, but that's nearly doubled. I also got 0% for 72 months and you know they're not gonna do that either.

I'm sure it's a nice truck, but the only thing it has over that old truck is power level stock (that coyote could make 650 with a blower thrown on and run like stock), a wireless charging pad, and a needlessly larger screen.

For that kind of money I could.have my X5 AND a Ram SRT10 QC.

I would suspect a 2025 F-150 Platinum will not be far off.

84k when I built it before buying my X5. Not far off, but still way too much. Trucks shouldn't be real luxury car prices, no matter how nice they are or claim to be.

Now add on the $5,000 to $7,000 2025 price bump to the Platinum.

Somebody gotta pay up for EV's, sad truth it's pickup drivers for Ford, GM and Stellantis.

That was for the 2025. It actually didn't really change THAT much from the 24, because they deleted content. You also could only get the powerboost,no more coyote in platinum which was a deal breaker for me, and the lariat loaded up wouldn't let you add power running boards, and was still like 77k. Just too much money for a truck,. especially one that would need another 12k-15k or so in Whipple supercharger, exhaust, and lowering kit to make me happy.

In the end, it makes more sense (for me) to daily a sporty SUV I like, and either buy a beater truck, rent a truck, or use a utility trailer.

People are demanding luxury trucks. Capitalism.

I don't disagree. My point is a luxury truck should not cost as much as a German luxury SUVs. At the end of the day, it's still a work truck underneath. That's what people like about them. Nice cabin, space for the family, and tough as nails, for less money than a luxury SUV. When it's cheaper to buy the luxury SUV and a small folding trailer, the value prop breaks down.

Interesting to note the similar architecture on the I6 BMW petrol and diesel engine variants. On the production line, the block could end up being in a petrol, or diesel ICE.
