iDrive 8.5 or Partial install ??

So I just picked my car back from getting the break-in service done, and my SA had told me that they would be updating to iDrive 8.5. Was excited to check it out and I feel that either something went wrong, BMW is partially rolling out 8.5 or my car (April production X5M) will not support the full 8.5 iDrive.

So essentially the only thing I notice that is different is the climate control screen and the navigation screen. Everything else seems the same and I don't have the icons or main screen that was showcased in the demo.

I am attaching a few pictures here but wondering if anyone else is seeing the same thing (for those that have had a chance to update).

You have an X5M, those are not eligible for the full 8.5 meaning QuickSelect.

Had no idea and kinda blows, was looking forward to the quick select. Do you have any more info if this is something that will be addressed at some point and so it is a X5M specific only thing?

It is all M vehicles. Given the wording I guess it could change sometime in the future.

Ah yeah I have missed that footnote, but thanks for sharing! Well fingers crossed a later update will indeed bring the full UI to our M cars as well. For now I guess I'll enjoy the slightly better UI for the climate control

I feel your pain. It’s a bummer to spend at the highest tier in the X5 vehicle family and not get at least equal treatment tech wise. I would have more understood if it went the other way around — e.g., X5M owners get the most complete access first, and then it trickles down… And this is coming from a 50e owner (I know, easy for me to say, since I guess full 8.5 is coming my way).

Another example, I suppose, of how legacy car makers are still slow to catch up when it comes to software development and deployment.

Anyway, sorry for the disappointment!

No I don't. If I had to guess I would say they just haven't had the time to fully develop a version for the M's since they all of the different drive mode customization and other M specific items. In order to get something out to handle the climate situation they just put a little different front face on for the M's and the full blown 8.5 will come out later.
