Comfort access problems 2024 LCI

This appears to have started after the last minor software update.

My comfort access has gone wonky. Works 80% of the time fine, other times it doesn't want to let me in the car.

Started when I used the key. I made sure the key was in the open and not behind anything. That happened enough that I switched to using my iPhone/Apple Watch.

iPhone/Apple Watch is more sensitive and has great range. Actually too much. But there are still times I walk into the garage and the car remains locked. I then fiddle with the handle trying to wake the car up.

I while back I heard someone else talk about this but I thought it was user error. Guess not!

Anyone else fighting this?

Yes I had same issue from the start, my dealer said it’s a design fault waiting a fix!, mine works some of the time and very dependent on how I approach the car.

Frustrating as hell!

If I put my hand in the door handle and pause, it will unlock. If I immediately pull the door handle, like I have done with every other car that has had this feature, it doesn't unlock - and often I have to reproach.

I dont use the unlock on approach feature b/c it just continuously unlocks and my watch is always vibrating.
I wish you could set the distance for the approach feature.

I use my iPhone exclusively and do not carry a fob. On occasion the car won't unlock upon approaching so I'll open the app and unlock the car in-app. Prob something related to bluetooth. Note: on trips my wife has a fob in her purse.

I've done the same thing - seems to defeat the purpose of comfort access. As I've experienced this I wonder if the car is sleeping or something. Do wish BMW would work out these bugs.

Usually there is logic that relocks the car if it detects a fob approaching but that fob does not unlock the door within the set time window. It's pretty common to then need to touch the handle to get it to unlock.

While that is true, its guesswork here to imagine a scenario where your car is catching a sniff of the fob, phone, whatever, you don't unlock, and then it falls back into locking itself. I'm not saying it's true, just that what I know about how these things work, says it's something you may want to consider ruling out.

If you're relying on UWB with digital key plus, my experience is that it is not 100% reliable. With my Samsung S21+ I think it's more a phone issue than one with the car. NFC always works though.

Funny how these problems don’t exist with the fobs. If you live on the bleeding edge of tech, there’s typically gremlins for a while. BMW will make this tech work 100 percent, right about when they introduce a “newer better way.” :-)

Actually it started with the fob. I did not originally use the phone as a key, just the fobs. After a few times of the car not opening, I added the phone hoping that would fix it. Nope - same problem.

Same with mine. Apparently this is a "feature" rather than a bug. Was instantaneous with my 2019 X5 50i.
