Hey I'm the last guy to defend BMW, but this is an environmental law thing, not a paint thing.

This is exactly accurate as can be. ALL paints in the BMW line up are done the exact same way on the exact same line. They are no longer cured by heat for hardening they are done by a water based time sensitive additive.

I was at the car wash yesterday, its a premium hand wash here in Brooklyn, nothing but expensive cars. I paid attention to all BMWs there, and they all had swirls. There was another X6M, a dark grey, the guy only got it two months ago and the paint is all swirled up. I am only on my third wash after the paint corrections, and look at the paint. There are even some deeper marks on the hood, and the car isn't being abused by any means, only 4k on the odo.

I don't know what to say, other than sorry to see that. The issue is those places even if they are whatever cars go there probably reuse the towels/mitts. They will scratch your car even if the paint made of sapphire
In my humble opinion either wash it yourself/pro detailer or leave it dirty seriously |

Naw - these swirls are caused by BMW's new curing process per a few posts up. No amount of babying or hand washing is going to prevent this.
I wonder if this process is limited to cars produced here in the US. I guess I'll find out first hand when my new metallic paint M3 shows up. Like I said before - previous gen x6m with the same paint color can take this abuse from a hand car wash way way better.

Same as my 2018. It was this bad after 3 years. Not straight away like my 2021.
I'll just paint correct and ceramic twice a year. Will give my local shop some business.

After your next paint correction and ceramic coating, stop going to that car wash, spend the money using a detailer who only uses brand new microfiber towels and wash mits, and you'll see the swirls won't come back.

I wonder how is the paint quality on Japanese built cars. I had a 2001 Lexus years ago, from what I remember the paint looked great after many years. My 2012 X5 paint still looks great after 9 years and almost 70k on the clock.

Depends what color the old Lexus or BMW.
I have another car in silver, I can't see a damn thing, no dirt, not scratches, no swirl marks, though they exist! But difficult to see compared to TBII. Example when drying TBII if I don't dry it perfectly it shows streaks easily , though silver I can't see anything, I have to go from different angles to be able to tell , yet very hard. That's my 2c |

The one on Stillwell Ave screwed up my paint completely on the very first wash, this is when I made my original post. I had the car paint corrected after it, and took it two or three times to the one on McDonald Ave. They do a much better job and with much less damage to the paint.

The carwash on Stillwell is called Crystal Clear Hand Wash, they have been around for decades, and have a very good reputation, but they are the ones that ruined my paint the very first time I washed the car. |

This is why I stopped going to car washes around us. Swirls and I don’t have 2 hours to kill on my weekends. By that time I could have washed the car better myself.
Maybe you guys could try this mobile detailer. I never used him but someone referred me and seem to have a decent following online. Price didn’t seem unreasonable considering it’s saving you time. https://instagram.com/statusautocare...d=btro5d0l0cht Alan |

What I do in winter, I pressure wash it on my driveway, then get it into my garage and ONR it with the red sponge. Check this video, though I dry it always using a detailer.
