Got rear ended today

So this just happened. Traffic came to a quick stop and the red FRS didn’t even attempt to slow down. I was a good car and a half behind the car in front of me and got pushed into him.

Car is reporting parking brake malfunction and some sort of oil warning.

Driver side laser headlight damaged, front radar thing taken out, front grill was pushed in and I was leaking coolant and perhaps oil.

Both curtain airbags deployed, but not the main front air bags.

The rear end was absolutely wrecked. The hatch doesn’t quite line up. All the doors open fine though! BMW built a tank! So thankful I was in an SUV. If I managed to move out of the way, I suspect the FRS would have destroyed the Jetta that I was pushed into.

Everyone was fine. Just soreness.. FRS caught fire!

I pray they will write it off??

Hopefully you nor your passengers if any don’t have any lasting injuries.

Now have the insurance total it. Not worth repairing. Get the ‘24 LCI and be done with it.

I was unable to get my f80 M3 totaled after a drunk driver hit me an hour after buying in california. The repairs were over $35k and it took MONTHS to get the car back.

Hope it gets totaled for OP's sake.

Brutal!! Life just isn’t fair sometimes. Hopefully that incident provided you with ample amounts of positive karma that you were able to cash in at a later time!

Fingers crossed that they write this off.. the unfortunate part is now it’ll cost me more money out of pocket to replace it. There’s a new luxury tax and the cars have gone up in price..

OMG, glad that you are ok.
It would depends on where you are, but in California, high chance that they will total it.
Too expensive to fix and no one wants to work in California.

Your X5 appears to be a total loss. The parts alone would be staggering.
That FRS looks like the type of vehicle which often cause these kind of crashes here in S Florida. Anyone who lives here knows what I am talking about.
Not uncommon to see ass clowns in these Asian tin cans playing Fast and Furious then ending up with their heads in some one's back seat.
Glad that you are well. Nice to be in a safe vehicle on days like that.
Good Luck and you will love the LCI if that is your next choice.

Ugh. This hurts me to look at. Glad you seemed to have escaped without major injury. My guess is totaled mainly because the right, rear quarter looks tweaked (fuel door not flush). The rest of that is a relatively easy bolt on's fix. Expensive yes but the vehicle is still worth a fortune and it's a percentage game. It depends on what percentage your insurance company deems too expensive to repair. Some are 50% and some as high as 70-80%. I bet there's $40-50K there in damage.

I got rear ended by an Escalade. Way less damage than that and the bill came out to $26k. Pretty sure yours will be a total loss with that amount of damage.

I noticed today that the driver side also looks a little misaligned. Check out the rear driver side door and how it doesn’t fully align near the green circle.

Hoping for a write off..

Luckily I have a depreciation waiver for the first 36 months. I should be able to get 100% of the car’s original value if it’s written off.

Insurance said it’s likely a loss, but that’s just based on what I told them verbally. They haven’t looked at it yet. I didn’t even mention the interior… my fat ass had just finished buying a frozen coffee drink. It’s all over the interior!

Very glad you are ok brother! That’s all that matters. We just went through a total loss accident on my wife’s Model Y about a year ago. We were hit by a bulldozer! Thankfully no injuries and they totaled the car. Got her into a 45e.

I’m in CA and insurance companies love totalling cars here.

Glad you are ok!

-great news you have new car replacement (assume that’s what you mean by depreciation waiver for 36 months). Smart choice.
-one of my greatest fears is that kind of idiot driver misjudging a high speed pass and clipping me in rear. Essentially a kamikaze style PIT.
-did your cameras catch a recording of crash? They are supposed to in a crash (always has 20 seconds in buffer).

I will check tomorrow when I visit the car to grab my personal items. That said, I got the whole thing on my BlackVue. I’ll upload to YT and share shortly.

Sorry about the car. Hopefully its totalled. It looks like it since the rear end hit seems significant enough to have frame damage.

WOW, that's quite the hit! Botards were probably racing and or high?

I'm sure most of us have been there and done that, on the receiving end like you. Flashed me back to a colossal rear end on the Cross Bronx! Was in my beloved '89 Acura Legend in 1991, stopped in traffic in the rain, when some total POS w/ no insurance and probably illegal alien, barrels into me w/ his white Ford Probe.
All that really matters though, that are all ok....
