General build process question
I ordered a 2025 X5MC, with an individual color and just received my “Vehicle Inquiry Report” from the dealer which includes my production number. The dealer asked me to double check/verify the vehicle order details. He then told me that in week it should be in production and a VIN would be issued so I can track it. Does that sound right?

If they changed an existing allocation and it happened to hit the timeframe that the Individual paints were being done I guess so but would be very rare. Give Genius a call and asked or the production week. Let us know what you find out.

I do know that the dealer got the allocation from a different dealership and it originally wasn’t an individual color… |

Called and the dealer is right I guess. The allocation was for a different color to a different dealer, and my dealer managed to trade for it, resulting in the allocation and production number, putting the status as 111. In a couple of days they are updating the order with my individual color and (sounded like) moves the car to the next status, which is also when the VIN is developed, along with the build week…

When you do an Individual paint it uses a normal allocation. In the case they got an allocation from another dealer for a Priority 3 order (for dealer stock) and that is what you are seeing. For Individual paints the dealer must request approval for them for a specific allocation. It really is just a formality since there is a pre-approved list of paints. Once that approval is obtained then the order is changed to have Individual paint. As mentioned above, Spartanburg batches Individual paints so once your paint has been approved you can call Genius and get the production week. Here is an example of the VIR's for an Individual paint order. When it is first entered, 490 is used for the color (in your case it is the color that was on the allocation from the other dealer). Once approval is received, the color changes to the actual color ordered.

Now the f12 updated to say “special color” and the status code changed from 111 to 102.

Very good, that means they are requesting approval for it. You should see it change to your actual color within a day or so.

Mine took about 5 days for approval but it seems to be going quicker recently, good luck.

If your CA knows the right people the approval can be done in 5 minutes.

It depends on how backed up they are, the model you are ordering and where production is going to take place. There is only a couple of folks who are responsible for the process for all BMWNA ordered vehicles.

Right, and if your CA knows one of those individuals, can be approved in 5 minutes or less. Just sayin’! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Received my production week: #32 (August 4-10).
A bit later than I hoped but all good. Now the countdown starts 🤪 |

I wanted to hijack this thread because my question is related... Is there any posted timelines about how fast BMW usually moves between codes? I just entered 150, and I am wondering what a reasonable timeline is?

You will not see any movement until your production date, maybe the night before. You will go right to Entering Assembly Line (153) as Spartanburg does not report the intermediate steps which occur a few days before. Assembly takes about four hours and then it I variable for the rest of them. QC usually takes about an hours but some vehicles will stay in that stays for days or even a week or more.

TurtleBoy - when taking to Genius, it sure seems like that these code updates are manual processes as well, so sometimes things don’t move until an individual makes the actual input into the system. Is that that your understanding as well? |

No, I don't think it depends on a person doing it but rather the updates are done from the assembly data in batches and not real time. They make more than 1,500 vehicles a day so it would take multiple people around the clock just inputting the status.
