Some folks say wait until after break-in to make sure the car isn't a lemon, etc. Im in the other group...I never wait until breakin period is over to start modding. I put the jb4 on pretty quickly after picking it up. Makes the car, which is already quite nice to drive, so much more engaging.

Yeah I am the general sales manager so I run the sales department. So I'm not really worried about it being a lemon I'll just get another one. I just figured I would let everything seat good in the motor. But hey I guess I'll put that thing on tomorrow.

I would say the two products are aimed at two different buyers. I've used both and enjoyed both. Race chip works well and on my m5 I could feel the additional power. Jb4 gives you the ability to produce more power than the race chip, and if you like tinkering, jb4 is fun and gives you that ability.
If looking for a modest boost in power and not messing with things, go with race chip. If you want some additional boost and such beyond what racechip will do, and you want to add more mods and fine tune things for different fuels, go with jb4. It's also nice that jb4 has logging capabilities. But again, if your not into tinkering, you won't use the logging function too much I would imagine. |

Not true. They put up videos on YouTube showing improvements in 100-200kph. That metric allow la for better representation of power gains, as it takes out most, it not all, of the variability of traction.

I had Racechip on my 2014 650i and did not notice much of a difference. Later I found out that people dyno'd it and couldn't see any whp gain. I wonder if similar issues are present with the N63R. Edit: The only reason why I'm wondering is because I'm in the market for a piggyback and am trying to decide between the Racechip and the JB4. |

I think people don't post Racechip numbers on Dragy leaderboard because the tune is not aggressive, and it's not meant to be...you're not going to have the fastest car cuz of the racechip. It was just enough to have some more fun with the car. My m5 with race chip did 10.8 at 128 (florida weather). Stock it was low 11s and lower 120s. After the 1200 mile service, I removed the race chip and did an ecu/tcu flash and added jb4 on top and was running 10.2/10.3 at 137 mph...that number i posted on dragy. It's not going to transform any car into a drag strip warrior, as they don't crank the boost that high. Either way...just try one. Low cost of entry either way. I suggest anyone who mods cars always has a dragy and a datalogger. This way you know if the device is giving you the additional boost/etc, and you can do runs back to back from stock to 'tuned' and measure yourself. |

Yeah - I was more thinking about showing the results in the forums and not neccesarily on the leaderbaord. When I went from stock to Stage 2 in the 550i, my time dropped by 1.3 seconds to 11.9. I could tell a huge difference between stock, which I couldn't with the Racechip. Even if not to climb the leaderboard, it would sitll be nice to see a difference - even if it's a .5sec difference.

For that reason I was thinking of going with Carbahn, but I tried contacting them on 3 different platforms and have not received any responses in over a month. Makes you question how their customer service will be if they are not even trying to make a sale. |

I understand that any use of a tune or piggyback that pushes the engine beyond the factory settings will get flagged once the car is plugged in to the BMW diagnostic computers, even if you remove said tune or piggyback. So engine and drivetrain warranty pretty much void.

The JB4 adds 4 and 5 lbs of boost on its two most conservative settings/tunes. That has to be really noticeable on both the 3.0L and 4.4L X5s.

I'm running 20psi with ewg connector now (about 8psi over stock). And I love the fact that the jb4 has logging and safety capabilities. |
