Drive Recorder and SW version 07/2020

Due to a recent software update, I had to go back and setup the drive recorder app again. I noticed one really big change in the app on my new SW version (07/2020.60). The app now only lets you choose to either start recording manually or automatically. The version previous allowed you to set it up in AUTO mode but also allowed you to initiate it manually either through the app or by long pressing the Pano camera button. Now it's only one way or another. Not a huge deal but annoying that they took away functionality.

Actually it is a "huge" deal and when/if I ever update and notice this, I will be seeking a refund on my DR subscription for this. Enough is enough of willy nilly functionality roulette, BMW needs to gets its software act together and a voluntarily-paid feature is a good way to demonstrate the point to them.

As for needing to make a choice of auto OR manual recording, is the BMW product manager that approved or allowed this expect customers to be clairvoyant? If we were, we wouldn't need DR as there would be no accidents. These people have their heads up their asses.

My local Genius insists that "manual" is in addition to "auto" and that when in manual the DR will still trigger in the event of an accident. He didn't have anything written down from Munich to back this up.

I did point out to him that the only way I could verify if his statements were correct was by crashing. Not great.

That could be true - but if it is, why even have the option of AUTO if AUTO is always on. very misleading. To me, it's way more important to record in case of an accident vs me just tooling around driving down an onramp so I have it set to AUTO just to be safe.

Well that's getting interesting. Could have been a bug that was fixed. But that's a key problem with BMW software — you can almost never tell whether it's a bug or yet another idiotic intention.

Guess I'll just have to wait for the OTA. Certainly not worth a trip to the dealer.

Would you mind sharing a picture of this recorder setting? With both options selected? I am awaiting delivery that came with the July version and my dealership wants to charge hourly rate for 11/2020 update unless I could point out an issue. This will give them an excuse with BMW to update the software. It felt like installation takes some time and without reasons they cannot bill BMW to recuperate the amount. So much for deceptive OTA marketing!

I'm on 07/2020.80 and can select both. Must've been a bug in earlier 07/2020 fixed in .80.

I have 07/2020.54 and can select both. Maybe it was a problem in just .60. VTENGR do you still have the issue or has it gone away?

After seeing this thread i verified that I have both options and was able to trigger the DR manually

I have 07/2020.54 and can select both. Maybe it was a problem in just .60. VTENGR do you still have the issue or has it gone away?

I'm embarrassed to say that after seeing other posters selected options I can select both. I guess it never occurred to me to see if I can select both, however that seems like a logical progression I would have followed. In any event, I can select both manual and automatic. Crisis averted.
