Battery/Bimmerlink/Remote Start

Hi all! Been loving my 2021 X5M Comp. I noticed that the remote start would not work. Ran the codes via BimmerLink and cam up with the attached error. I cleared it out and remote start begins working. However anytime it throws this code the remote start stops working.

Here’s my issue. I don’t have a LiIon battery. My main battery at the rear is a 105ah AGM and the front battery is a smaller AGM. I’ve trickle charged both and the vehicle keeps throwing this code. I don’t know where to go from here. Should the front battery be a LiIon battery? Perhaps the PO replaced it with an AGM?

What battery does everyone else have up front in an X5M Comp? Or is there a setting miscoded where the car should be told that it has an agm up front? I’m totally confused at this point. Thanks!

I just checked my 2020 and its a AGM battery in both front and rear.

I have one of these scanners that seems to be able to do alot more than bimmercode. There is a function on there that can read and tell you the condition of the battery. Not just the current state of charge but overall battery condition. That could help you further diagnosis this.

I have a 2022 X6M, it has a Li ion up front. it seems to me that if the message is saying it doesnt recognize a Li ion battery then you may have to replace the up front battery with a Li ion to correct the problem.

Long shot, but when did you notice that? Wild idea, but was it after you update the software on your car? I would check with ista if you have other option for the front battery maybe new SW change it to Li ion

Ive only had the vehicle for approx 2 months, so just recently did i just notice it. I did end up connecting to Ista last night and there were 4 codes that the vehicle was throwing. Nothing relating to a battery per se. I cleared them out and ran main battery test and it indicated that it was good at 80%. No clue how too check on the secondary battery. However, the car did remote start this morning and I just tried it with my key at the office and it worked. I'll keep an eye out and let you all know the progress. I appreciate the repsonses!!!!

I meant going thru the option for registering new battery and see if there have option for the secondary battery and what options it has.

Just an FYI…the BimmerLink app can do that, too. Bimmercode is for changing parameters…its sister app (BimmerLink) is for diagnostics etc.

Thanks again for all the replies. I didn’t realize BimmerLink could test the battery. I know it can tell u state of charge. I’ll have to take a look.

Also when I went into ista I did not see anything about the 2nd battery, but I didn’t look very long.

I bought a battery tester and here are the results for both batteries. It says to replace both but I haven’t gotten any warnings through the idrive.

I use bimmerlink a lot but never seen the option to test the battery condition. I only see the state of charge.

Is the car under warranty? i guess in the grand scheme of things if all this is fixed by replacing the battery then its not a huge deal. Better if the dealer will cover the cost obviously. Just remember if you are going to replace the battery yourself you have code the car letting the dme know there is a new battery.

I believe there are 2 versions of the auxiliary battery. One being a 60Ah agm and the other a 10Ah Li- Ion. Varies depending on vehicle options. Maybe run your VIN and see which battery option your car came with originally. Could also be bad capacitor for the auxiliary battery.

You also shouldn’t use an AGM or regular Acid battery charger to charge a Li-Ion. Voltage is too high and can damage battery. Some Li-Ion batteries have on board under voltage protection that disconnects the battery to prevent it from becoming too deeply discharged.

Understood. However I have an AGM up front and honestly can’t understand if I need a lithium ion based on the error. iSTA doesn’t pick up the error

Any update on this? I got this code too. Car seems fine 99%, just can’t do remote start anymore (it did before). Ran codes via BimmerLink and pulled this exact same code 12v lion battery signal implausible. At the time checking code battery level was 76%. Is it because it’s not charged at the minimum level required for remote engine start?

So I ended up taking to dealer. They reprogrammed the car, updated software, and replaced the front aux battery. Works like a charm now. I’m guessing it was the front battery that was bad?
