Question on the VIN

Intrigued !

I though all BMW X5 G05 are being built in USA (Spartanburg) which would mean the VIN will start 5UX irrespective of which country the vehicle is destined to. My car that is currently is production has been assigned a VIN starting WBA and is is destined for UK. What is happening? Am I missing something?

My european version has a VIN beginning on WBA too - so it has to be standard for Europe.

Thank BigCactus. I have done a bit more digging and it would appear the first three characters are the WMI code and is it pretty much up to the manufacturer as to what they put in there if they have companies in various parts of the world. It is the 11th character that identifies the plant and it is 'L' Spartanburg in my case.
