Extended Warranty?

Hello all,

Looking for some advice on what to do with my current 2020 X5 M50i. My warranty is going to expire soon as i am at 47k miles, as much as i love the car i don’t feel comfortable having it without the warranty. I have been thinking about purchasing extended warranty however, I’ve seen posts on here that say it is a waste of money. I do have equity in my car, and would most likely get to pocket some cash if i sell it but, like i mentioned i do love the car. What are your guys’ thoughts? Is the extended warranty worth it at this point?

From a financial point of view it is rarely worth it. The value in it is for people who want some peace of mind knowing that if something happens that is covered they don't have to pay for it. Since you don't feel comfortable not having some coverage then it would be worth buying an Extended Service contract. You will want to go with a Platinum and shop around ot various dealers. There are some that I recommend if you need names.

Extended warranties are a personal thing - like...how lucky do you feel? I never get them but many do and are glad they did but I'd rather stick a few bucks/month away in a saving acct, CD or whatever but with the intended purpose of paying for car repairs and at the end of the ownership, if I'm lucky, I get to spend that money on whatever I want. If you're car has had a history of issues, you wouldn't be thinking of keeping it past its warranty, right?

I'm in the same boat. I'm primarily worried about laser headlights and air suspension. If those two break, it'll cost a lot!

For BMW's Platinum Laser lights aren't covered and the parts of the air suspension that can go are generally fairly inexpensive for what people have reported for the previous generation. Have not seen any problems with the G05's version.

That's good to know. TIL. That's very interesting that it isn't covered....

This is a great sentiment right here. Stick that same money into a saving account, most of the stuff that would fail in this car is not more than the cost of the extended warranty, unless you are very unlucky and have some serious issues.

I'm minority here but for M50i (V8) I would invest in warranty.
