Hi all,

New (X5) owner, currently in 150 “Production Begins” status. I’m trying to get my delivery details in order. My deal calls for an extra key. I‘m curious - are two keys PLUS a display key provided or is it two keys INCLUDING the display key.

Also, thanks to all of you currently participating on the board - you’ve made the past 6 weeks of (not so) patiently waiting a little bit easier!

The X5 comes with two keys plus a key card. The display key is not standard and is not a listed option in the US although some have gotten their dealer to get them one.

we didn't order a key card but it came with one. does it come with a specific package or option?

I received 2 key fobs + one key card. (2020 X5 40i)
No Display key.

No it's standard to get 2 fobs and and the key card.

Display key replaces one key. Its not added on top.

They used to give a display key in addition to two fobs back in 2017, but changed the policy for all cars in 2018 before the G05 even came out. I had a 2017 G30 with a display key + 2 fobs, and then had keys re-made in 2018 so I saw the policy change as I ended up with one less fob.

Digital key (key card) comes with all X5's.

My understanding is that if you take the display key, you loss one key fob

My X6 came with display key.

How else do you raise/lower the suspension from outside the car?

One of the YouTube videos I watched on the X6 talked about a valet key that prevents tampering with any of the controls. ???

Are you sure they were talking about a key and not valet mode? With that a pin is needed in order to get into iDrive so they can drive it but not change anything.

Display key for G05 isn't available for USA markets. We don't get the raise/lower the suspension from outside the vehicle, unless you have your trunk open then you can lower it for loading.

I know BMW often make strange US/Non US decisions ..... but any idea why on the key ? ....

Forum signatures (that you use and I've started to use :-)) are very helpful for that. Indicate your and your car's country for context both for answering and asking.

Some of the reasons for differences are local regulation differences (and timing of adoption of changes to those). But others are pure BMW bizarre marketing or plain incompetence — those are the ones that are baffling. My best example to the point is BMW Canada's bizarre continued insistence that the commonly available BMW compact spare is not possible (and therefore not available) in just the Canadian G05 X5 — one of the weirdest collective mental glitches over there ever.

I just don't understand why we cannot order spare tire in Canada. It's not like we are asking for free. Add whatever $150, $200, $300 bucks for the spare option, I would gladly take it without any hesitation. With the spare, then I don't need to order RF for winter..I just don't understand BMW Canada's logic

Not really sure tbh. My guess is it didn't get ordered enough so they took away that option.
