I wish they added remote start as standard to diesel variants. I had it on my Volvo XC90 and loved it - especially in the winter.

It doesn't engage at all when you're in Sport mode - or when your battery is low

Did you have remote start or a diesel fueled auxiliary heater? I had that on my 530d and it is also available for the X5 (for 1.500 euro, so not included) I don't know if remote start like in the US is legal in Europe.

Had it on a standard Diesel engine, no additional heaters installed. Remote start would engage main engine and start all heating including seats and steering wheel.

It is not legal in the UK to leave your car with engine running so people do it at their own discretion

If you are referring to the 40i, that is correct. The button was removed for MY21.

The heated/cooled cup holders are currently only available on thew X5M.

You guys better get used to the auto start stop button. Doug DeMuro on his YouTube channel said that many governments are now considering mandating it on all vehicles and making it non defeatable

These features can be coded off, several members on this board are experts in this area.

I completely forgot about this! Another reason I cancelled my 40i order and went with the M50i

I noticed that in the Korean market.

All X5 40i`s have soft closing doors and no IAS
All X5 M50i's have soft closing doors, heated/cooled cup holders, and IAS.
All the M50i's also come standard with 22" wheels and air suspension.

Just thought I'd share because I know they removed the soft closing doors and heated/cooled cup holders for the US market

Yes, many (perhaps all) of the options removed from the US market are available in some others. Fingers crossed the the supply chain will normalize and they will be back for MY22.

Yep, for example soft closing doors and acoustic glass are available for 45e in the UK but not in the US.

I read somewhere that someone had their thumb severed by the doors and blamed it on the doors. That may have had something to do with us losing some options in the US.

Doesn't line up as you can still get that option on the X5/X6 M and other cars as well

Just got my 2021 40i 2 months ago and no Auto Start/Stop button. But I must also admit that it doesn't bother you as much as it does with my other car 2019 330i. 330i has auto start/stop button and I tend to keep it off all the time because you really feel it. On X5 tho, when the engine shuts down and starts again you don't feel much difference. I was gonna code to keep it "always off" but changed my mind later. For the 330i, I'm planning to code it as "remember last settting"

Seem unlikely reason since many cars - BMW and others offer this. On the other hand, I noticed that the Merino leather upgrade only costs $1,000 on the new G05. On my F15 it was $3,900!

I think it only costs $1000, if you previously select the Msport package and the executive package. If you take a base model it forces you to take the Convenience Package and MultiCountour seats, with a total bill of $4,250. Also, from what I understand, previously there were more leather covered surfaces such as the center console etc... that are no longer covered in leather.

Yeah, they used to have two choices, at least for the M50i. Extended Merino was a $1,000 option, just like it is today. Full Merino was, IIRC, a $3,350 option that included more leather surfaces (the big one being the lower dash in your interior color) and the leather dashboard.

Ah. I just noticed that there is leather across the entire dash and center as well. I bought mine used and only noticed the price on my build sheet as an Individual Leather. Which just tells me that it was overkill since all I noticed was the piping in the stitching. The extended would have been fine. I have a 2018 xDrive 50 M-Sport. My friend got a new M50i and I think the overall interior build quality of the new M50i looks amazing. I in fact did not even notice I had more leather on the surfaces.

The soft close is cool, but again most people likely won't use it. I guess BMW made some tough choices, but overall the G05 package is still amazing. TBH, I don't even see a huge difference between the Vernasca and Merino leather when it comes to comfort. But for $1,000 it is certainly worth it.

I think if you are leasing, then it makes sense to load it up fully since you'll only pay 46% of the cost of the option in payments. Also, if you're buying used, many of these options don't cost extra at all (as I found). But if you're buying new and plan to keep for 5-6 years some of the options might not be worth it. My 2 cents worth.
