Jackstand position with offroad package?

Hi at all,

can someone please tell me, where the jackstand position on a X5 is? I can't see anything due the offroad package protection under the car.

Thanks!

Not familiar with the off-road package but do you see four of these under the car? These are the jack pads in every other bmw I've had.

Yes I have them, too. But I mean for placing one of these ones:

Pretty sure I've posted about this before, but in any case you need to get some jack pads like in the picture below. I picked some up on Amazon. They fit inside the jack mount points on the X5, and have worked perfectly for me on 3 different BMWs.

Or you can get these:

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...pter/ecs10721/

I bought 4 back in the day for my wife's E90 and they fit the X5.

I see the website says it doesn't fit but I just went out and tried it. I'm pretty sure all BMW models take the same size.

Thanks for your replies. I already have this pad for jacking the car up.

But I want to use the stands, too for some works. It's for safety. For the case that the jack gives up while the tyre is removed.

I need to know where I can place the stands while the car is jacked up at the same time.

If you have a trolley jack...you can lift the entire front axle and/or rear axle (in the specified jacking points in illustration below which shows the front axle stiffening plate & rear diff lift locations)...then you place your jack stands below any of the 4 jack pads you need to support the vehicle.

The rear location has been a controversial talking point for decades...but as you can see in the info from the BMW TIS...the rear diff is the suggested location.

Thanks for the explanation, I understand it know.
I just hoped, that I don't need to lift the whole axle. I thought there are some other spots I can use as assistance while I jack up the car from the jacking points.
Just for extra safety while I change tires.

I ordered a new and bigger trolley jack and will try it like the way your explained.

I solved this issue with the below jack stands for my M3, have not need to jack up the X5. If the stands are tall enough it should work since a pair of stands is rated at 4k.

Something like this is much less expensive than the Jackpoint stands. https://www.amazon.com/Powerbuilt-62...55427321&psc=1

The JackPoint stand is a neat idea, but more than I'd want to spend. The video said $299, but they're about 1/3rd more expensive now as time passes.

I checked it under the car, the front position is clear, I got it.

But for the back axle? The position from the BMW pics seems to be under the middle of the car, is that correct? Can you please mark the position on my picture?

Thanks.

Right...I've been using these for around 10 yrs now. A hydraulic jack and jack stand all-in-one. I only use them on the side of the car, not under the center-front or rear as I don't lift my cars that way.

Thanks.
In the diagram below…#1 is the COVER of your rear diff. DO NOT place your jack below the COVER…move a bit further to place the jack UNDER the rear diff itself which is the grayed out component in the diagram below.

Note the FINS on the cover…are the same fins circled in red in the pic you posted of your rear diff.

Again, the fins in your pic are the fins on the cover of your rear diff…depending on if you have the cover in the top illustration below…place your jack safely in the encircled red area based on which set up your rear axle has…again make sure NOT to place the jack under the fins on the rear diff’s cover:

FYI…your rear diff is bolted into the rear axle carrier (#1) which you can see in the illustration below…so it is secure to lift from the rear diff because the weight of the vehicle is transferred to the rear axle carrier:

No problem. Just remember to put a wheel chock in front of one of the wheels on the opposite axle that you’re lifting. When you lift the entire axle & the work you’re doing puts forward/aft forces on the car…the vehicle can roll in those directions (forward or aft)…especially if you lift the rear axle because the emergency parking brake is only on the rear axle. But also use a wheel chock behind a rear tire when lifting the front axle, too because if you don’t have the emergency brake on…all you have preventing the vehicle from rolling backwards is the tranny’s parking pawl. Better safe than sorry.

I have a last question

How should I place the jack under the rear axle position? It is almost under the middle of the car. Should I reach it from the side or from the back of the car?

Depends on how long your handle is and how much lift you get with each pump.

Obviously, if lifting from the side…you also need to consider placement to leave room for your jack stand(s) if you will be using a stand, too.
