BMW Extended Warranty cost

I will take delivery of my new X5 in a October. Can anyone give me an idea of the cost of purchasing the BMW NA Extended Warranty 100K/5 years? Thanks.

BTW I am not planning on buying the prepaid maintenance this time.

Welcome to the forum. There is no need to buy the Extended Service contract (that is what the extended warranty is called) when you purchase the vehicle. It is generally considered the worst time to do it. It can be purchased at anytime prior to the 4yr/50k expiring and can be purchased from any dealer.

A 5yr/100k would only give you one year of coverage. The most BMW will do is 84 month/100k miles. To give you an idea of pricing, when mine was 3 years old I got quoted $4,650 for an 84/100k Platinum.

Were you asking for 5 additional years of coverage on top of the standard 4 years or were you actually asking for only 5 total years at 100k because you average like 20k miles a year?

If the former, as TurtleBoy points out, BMW only goes up to 7 total years.

I just took delivery of my 2023 45e two days ago. I was offered a 10 year/85000 mile extended platinum warranty for $3200. I thought it was a pretty good deal so I went for it. I’ve heard how expensive BMWs can be to repair. The mileage doesn’t bother me as I am retired and have no daily commute. It has a $200 deductible.

That is not a BMW warranty, they don't go up to 10 years. You may want to get all of the details on it and then get a refund depending on what company backs it and the coverage.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, it is not BMW, but Millennium Automotive Protection.

I’ve driven a whole 60 miles so far (58 electric) and the car is, as expected, great.

I have no idea about this site but here is a review of MAP.

Congratulations on the new 45e. Good luck, enjoy and be safe.

I purchased the extended warranty and later realized (After reading this forums) that it is not worth it. I emailed the dealership to cancel the same but was told that I will not be able to apply for extended warranty again if I cancel it now. Is this true ?

This is the statement in both email that was sent to me and the cancellation form.

“Please be advised you are about to cancel coverage off of this vehicle, once cancelled it cannot be
reinstated. Please confirm VIN and customer information is correct before proceeding.”

Please advice.

maybe 'not reinstated' through them, but I read you can go through another dealership to purchase an extended warranty even though you didn't buy the vehicle from them. i also heard the GEICO warranty is pretty good

In have never heard of that but it could be true. Are you planning to buy another one again? If not, don't worry about it. If you are, then maybe don't cancel. My guess is though it meant that specific policy can not be reinstated.

Agree. I also plan to rely on GEICO's "Mechanical Breakdown Insurance". It costs only a fraction of the extended warranty with almost same benefits (250 deductible for each claim though)

As long as Geico is providing you with your insurance at a reasonable price and you plan on staying with them, that is the way to go. In my case when I was shopping around earlier this year Geico was overpriced compared to many competitors. I ended up going with AAA and it was almost $1,100 a year less expensive.

Last week I purchased a X5 45e. I was also offered several such packages including a periodic maintenance after 3yr for another 3 years and extended warranty for another 2 years. I didn't go for any. Not sure it is worth.

Not exactly true. The price increases significantly when the odometer crosses 20k.

And I'll agree that there is a lot less value in extending coverage at BMW's suggested retail prices, but I'm able to offer BMW extended coverages at very near dealer cost. They make a whole lot more sense at those prices.

Given the prices we have seen that has not been the case, as far as significant goes. The price increases but you also need to take into account the 4 years the money is either financed or out of pocket versus the return gained and of course present and future value of money.

I just bought an extended warranty this week for my X5 just before 20k. I was told the BMW Platinum warranty was $1k more in price once you are past 20k.

And the terms and price you paid was?

I paid $3850 for 84 months/75k miles. Not sure if the MSRP is involved in pricing but my build was slightly over 80k. No need for 100k miles given my usage, the years are more important.

Then in this case there is not much of a difference. When mine was over 3 yrs old and at 41k miles, my quote for 84m/75k was $3,950 and I think I could probably match your price given a recent contact I got.

The point of my post was that it is usually best to not buy it at the time the vehicle is being purchased. Whether you wait a year or 3.8, you usually will get a better price by shopping around.

So even if you buy warranty from one dealer - you can still go to any dealer when claiming it?
