40i Redline?

What is the red line of an X5 40i? I thought it was 7000, but my car is showing 5500…

I just started my '23 X5 4.0 up, switched the display from the default "Power" view to the tachometer, and it's showing a 6,500 rpm redline on mine. I searched the docs I have looking for confirmation of this, but found nothing official except this one reference in the press release when the car was first released: "The straight-six generates its maximum output of 335 hp between 5,500 and 6,500 rpm, while the peak torque 330 lb-ft is waiting to be unleashed from 1,500 – 5,200 rpm."

My tachometer tops out at 5500. According to Wikipedia, the b58 red line is 7000, but maybe this is limited in different vehicles? The weird thing is that mine seems to rev beyond on the red line…

Just a guess but check and see if the red line changes as you change modes, ex: sport vs economy vs adaptive, etc

Can you share a picture?

If I remember correctly, 40i RPM gauge goes to about 7500, but red zone started at 6500. Either way 5500 redline is kind of low for most gasoline engines, not just BMW.

Note, it might change as the oil heats up a bit more.

Hmm. How about in sport mode? Non M car doesn’t have variable red line based in oil temp. My 45e looks like this in sport mode in park. Completely cold engine, it has not run for a week.

Strange behavior, take it in for service. I just went out to the garage to check mine, here are the pix. Note, when in sport mode, it didn't matter if was regular sport, sport +, sport individual, etc, the display stayed the same, Red Line started at 6,500

just checked a video of the gauge cluster of a X5 30D and that has the same cluster as yours.

so you are running a diesel cluster on a 40i ...

get that checked out by the dealer.

I have an idea, I wonder if the previous owner changed gauge settings in BimmerCode? But not sure if there’s a diesel option in there.
