Black Badging

So I put on these M fender badges today In Gloss Black. I used the same measurements as I did with the F15...2 1/2" from the edge of the fender and 2" down from the top line.

Getting the grills wrapped tomorrow in Gloss Black.

I am really struggling what to do with the rear X5 and 40i badging. I want to get the OEM sizing in Gloss Black. The IND shipped to Canada would cost $400+ CAD. Looking for an economical solution.

I purchase an extra set of all the rear badges from someone here as a back up set. Painted them gloss black with a extra coat of clear protection coat. came out pretty good. Going to paint the 2nd set to see if i can perfect it

btw, it cost me $30 for the extra set and about $20 for both paint and 3M heavy duty double sided tape

I gave in a few days ago and ordered both the X5 and Xdrive 40i in Gloss Black.

I guess I'll now have a set to potential experiment on.

I'll try to get some pics this weekend, if i dont forget. crap load of stuff to do with our first kido coming soon. plus its the wife's daily, so dont see it much. only get to work on it when she's off

Yes, I know what you are talking about. My wife's DD as well. The other two are for the kids and I drive my Jeep GC Summit. I am told my job is to make sure all three are cleaned and filled up.

not that it matters, but the fender badges location is slightly different from the F15 mystro's photo. i believe his is the original dims from the factory.

I ended up buying them through IND. I had them throw them in the mail to avoid excessive shipping and duty. I think I was around $300 CAD.

On the side M fender badges i followed what I had done on the F15. I did 2 1/2" from the door and 2" top fender line.

I just received the black badges for X5 40i from eBay and they are smaller than the OEM badges that we have on the car (I bought them knowing this). However what disappointed me was that the X is just standard and not in the Italic style as the OEM X is - same with the 40i as well. Disappointed totally.

I plan on removing the badges off of my car and then sanding them off and repainting them to a black finish and then putting them on. Shouldn't take more than an hour to do the entire thing.

Just 1 question - any idea on what grit sand paper should I use to remove the chrome?

I hear ya. I got an X5 badge that was bigger and matte finished. I just couldn't do it so I bought the ones from IND. now that you have them off your car you might as well paint them.

I'm not sure what grit to use. Hopefully someone on the forum has got some experience with this. I have my original set as a back up in the event I lose one so I'd be interested to know.

I don't have them off as yet but that I plan on doing it with a hair dryer, dental floss and some body eraser. From what I have heard a 180 grit sandpaper should do the job.

Another option I may try is plastidip. For that I don't need to take the badges off.
