F95 X5M Frequency Intelligent Exhaust Installed and Sound Clip
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I took delivery of my F95 in Jan and immediately noticed that the stock comp sport exhaust leaves much to the imagination. Others sought lowering the car (most popular mod), some sought tuning (very difficult with MDE lock and warranty issues), and some of us sought an exhaust system that takes this experience to the next level. Do not get me wrong, I went down the path of Fi Exhaust based on my research. There are other reputable ones, and at this point it's a personal presence as this is an exhaust tune, much like music each has their own preference. I combed though threads, YouTube videos and review. I decided that FI is the tune I wanted to hear when I push the pedal. I started communicating with the company and they indicated that they are working on a prototype and they will have something ready shortly. In late April early May the vendor indicate that they are ready and immediately jumped on the chance to hear the music I longed for. So I placed an order for 2 systems (remember I told you on another thread that my friend bought the identical car because he loved what he saw). I receive the boxes on Friday and they should go on the car next weekend. I recorded videos and sound analysis files for the stock car to compare to the FI system when it's installed. Stay tuned for updates. Few teaser pictures attached and more to follow. [IMG][/IMG] DoneÂ…Â… Well I installed the catback FI exhaust system and let me tell you the beast is now awake. The process was really straight forward with one minor glitch that i'll explain in a later post. Chris Kuo from FI Exhaust was very helpful. I must have asked a million questions before even picking up my toolset. Removing stock exhaust: I started by loosing the clamps between the factory exhaust and downpipes. Then removing the mid pipe hangers, followed by the rear stabilization cross bar and lastly the muffler hangers. Then I lifted the stock exhaust using floor jack in place so it would not drag on the floor and pulled it back. Took some muscle but it was doable. Prep: I removed the exhaust flap controller off the old one and attach them to the new one. Also, I moved the exhaust hangers from one system to the other. Installing catback FI Exhaust: Putting the new system on was a breeze because it's in pieces. I started with putting the front pipes to the downpipes. Pay attention as the left and right ones are not the same. The driver's side has a welded section towards the back of the pipe (the passenger one doesn't). I didn't tighten the clamps all the way. Then I slid the midpipes on and again didn't tighten the clamps all the way. Then it was time to attach the rear pipes followed by sliding the muffler. Next, I attached the midpipe and muffler hangers. I made sure everything was like it's supposed to be then started tightening all the clamps. Lastly, I put the rear stabilizing bar. Attaching the tips and aligning them was a joy. I attached the wires to the exhaust flaps controller, started the car then disconnected the wires and tucked them under the heat shields in the sides of the rear bumper cover. I want the flaps open all the time. Enjoy these quick videos which do not do the sound justice. Stay tuned for FI catless downpipes next, should be on the way last week or the month. Yes I know I should have installed before the exhaust but I wanted to do the minimum to achieve the the desired outcome. While the catback transformed this ride, but I'm looking to take it to the next level. I miss my 2017 M3C with sports exhaust, I know without a tune I can't get there, but with the down pipes and this FI exhaust I can get very close. https://youtube.com/shorts/athDPGFeR-0?feature=share https://youtube.com/shorts/upr-dzTm8NQ?feature=share Please let me know if you have any questions, want more videos or pictures. if you take sound clips, please get a nice mic with a fuzzy cover, it goes a long way to portray an actual sound vs most clips found online these days..
im looking forward to hear what it sounds like! Maybe you can take some clips from outside, fire up, revving, flyby and maybe even on the car camera?

For price reach out to Chris from FI and he will give you an amazing deal his email is chrisk"at"fi-exhaust"dot"com. I only installed the cat back at this point. I'm doing a gradual upgrade I want to do the minimum I can to get the sound quality I'm looking for. I'm doing the work with my sons, it's really a fun project, easy and clean. 12 screws and the muffler system is off the car, literally 12 screws. The new system has a bit more because it's in 4 segments, but only 10 screws are keeping the system in place. Actually only 4 exhaust hangers, the other 6 are for the rear stabilization bar.

It sounds great. Could be a little louder, especially since the valves are forced open. BTW in that first picture it looks like the tips are sticking out a considerable distance from the bumper. Is that your preference, or by design?

Sounds good. I think the tips needs to be recessed a good 2" from the looks of them in the video. Just enough to let the logo peak out. I had to fine tune my akra tips for a good few weeks before getting them 100% perfect. It helps looking at them from further away to make sure they line up with the bumper.

I meant to ask if you heard Akra in person, would you say overall FI is louder than Akra?

Good question, I never heard APK in person. It would be an interesting side by side comparison. If anyone with an APK exhaust, or any aftermarket exhaust system mods, is in the local to the DC DMV area, I'm willing to meet.

Craziest thing ever
If someone told me about this I wouldn't believe them. As you know the flaps on my FI exhaust are always open (I took the plug out after they were opened). When I press the exhaust button (in the car next to the shifter) to the off position the car does NOT pop on up shifts. When I press it to the on position (green light on) the car pops like crazy on up shifts. You hear it in the videos I posted. The crazy thing is that I thought this button controlled the flaps and active sound. Well the flaps are always open on mine, so the button must be doing something to make the car pop so loud (no the sound is not from inside the car, see the video).
I learned something new today. |
