Finally Ordered My X5!

Hello all! This is my first post, as I have just joined the world of BMW. After driving a 2013 Acura TSX for the past 6 years, I've taken the plunge and ordered a new X5 40i in Sapphire Black/Tartufo.

I've cautiously been dipping my toes in the new car market for the past year and finally decided on the X5 after checking out the Cayenne, SQ5, GLE 450, and F Pace. A big reason I chose the X5, aside from how great it is, has been me lurking through the community here. All the threads, aggregations of reviews, and pictures went a long way in helping me make my decision.

I've attached my build order here. As you'll see, I got a little carried away with the options! I drove the V8 and V6 and chose the V6 due to how smooth it was and that I'd never need the V8 for the netherworld of traffic that is Atlanta. I'm hoping to take delivery soon (Week 21 build date + Performance Center Delivery) and to start contributing to the threads!

Welcome aboard. I too came out of an Acura and the X5 is my first SUV/SAV. We absolutely love it and it has met or exceeded all of our expectations. I'm sure you will love yours.

I知 in Atlanta too and am considering ordering one. Did you use a local dealer and would you recommend them? I値l likely do PCD also so I知 not tied to a local dealer.

Hi ssidiq1, I cross shopped a few of the local dealers. Even though I'm doing PCD, I found Atlanta to be a great market for competitive offers for the X5 so that I didn't have to go outside the area. I settled on Nalley BMW in Decatur. Marcus Mullins was my Client Advisor and he was fantastic through the entire process. I would highly recommend him!

Congratulations. You've done the research and picked a great vehicle. PCD is a no brainer since you live so close. It is an amazing experience for sure.

I know you are new to BMW and I'm not trying to play word sheriff or anything, but you need to know that the engine is an inline 6, not a V6. BMW is known for its silky smooth inline 6 engines and they don't make a V6.

Best of luck on your PCD experience. Make sure to share photos.

Welcome to the BMW family!

Ah yes you are completely correct! I actually remarked at the dealership on how smooth the I6 was compared to other V6 engines, but of course in my excitement to post, I completely whiffed.

I know you're probably NOT new to BMW and I'm not trying to be clever here, but instead thought you and others here may find it interesting to know they they do make V6s... Ran into this article a few years ago:

Thanks. Yes, I remember that article and I was aware of prototypes. We will see if they ever get to production. In the meantime, its inline 6s, a BMW specialty.

Thumbs up Ordered mine on 5/6 too

Hey Sharmaa,

Congratulations on your Order! I too ordered my i40 on Monday as well and was told week 21 Production by the dealer. Our Cars will be build Brothers! I am also considering a PCD. Dealer has not yet identified potential dates. Have you had any luck with pick up dates in SC? THX!

Hi Tclancy77,

Congrats on your Order as well! I've been checking the MyGarage website every day and it updated yesterday to "Production Begins." As for PCD, I really wanted to do it, and the dealer reached out to BMW about it. Their proposed date was June 4.

Unfortunately for me, it looks like I'll have to do the regular pickup at the dealership as I'll be travelling for work that week. Maybe you can inquire with your dealer for that slot.

My ability for PCD is very date dependent for the same reason. I provided the information for my guest yesterday and still nothing. Thanks for letting me know about 6/4 and I will let the dealer know. I知 pretty excited to get behind the wheel. During the test drive (with wife and daughter in the car), Salesman had me accelerate to 55mph and and lay on the brakes while steering into the adjacent lane. I had total control. What an impressive SAV. I like everything about it!

I hope you do figure out a way to do PCD. The turn while braking is one of the several things they have you do. I had no idea you could still control the direction of the G05 so well with ABS fully engaged in a panic stop. They have you do this brake test as different speeds and the G05 was flawless. The G05 on the track was fantastic too. And, don't get me started about how impressive it is on the off road course. It may not be a Range Rover, its way more than I will ever need in terms of off road capability. Truely impressive.

This all sounds amazing. Gotta figure out a way to get out of this work trip! And I actually did order the off road package as well since I do some, albeit light, hiking. I saw videos of the off road package in action, and it's way more capable than I think I'll ever need it to be.

You can always change the date of your PCD. I know getting your car later is not a plus, but if I had to choose waiting a few weeks and doing PCD or getting my car now I'd wait, however painful that sounds.

Or, of course, you could ditch the work event Not recommended.
