Worth waiting for 2021?

I was going to order a X6 50M....

However, seems the idrive 7 is packed with issues. I know is just the iDrive, but there is nothing more annoying that have defective issues with the electronics from the car. Especially if the gadgets are a big incentive to switch to a new car.

I wonder if maybe waiting and getting a 2021 model next year would reduce the chance of getting issues.

Not sure what issues you are referring to but there currently seems to be very few issues with the latest versions of iDrive 7 and none are serious as far as I know.

you also have to keep in mind that the people on this forum myself included are die hard geeks obsessed with every little quirk and feature of the car so anything remotely wrong gets a 10+ page thread about it (see: wrinklegate). We just got ours a couple of weeks ago, there were a few quirks, nothing major, its fine. We love it. Everything has a software hiccup, and you will never get a car with this much tech that's totally bulletproof.

So so true !!!!!!

ID7 is NOW rock-solid, at least for me and sounds like most people here. Couldn't say the same 12-months back, but its all been cleaned up now.

The only benefit of waiting for 2021 is BMW might release or update the series and maybe throw in some extra features, new wheels..etc. Else I doubt there will be an ID8 any time soon.

Yep so true... this could then probably a never ending wait. I mean if we go back from 2-3 years from now in this forum threads, we might find same kind of question back there.

I have to agree with the others, plus you are seeing the combined issues of a number of enthusiasts who enjoy discussing small quirks and features.

I wouldn't hold out on enjoying a great car over this stuff.

Picked up my X5/M50i a month ago and no issues. Waiting for newest model is why I still have an iPhone 6.

Got it.
Was just referring to iDrive7 though. But I guess the issues have been worked out.
Im also a gadget geek and like when all works perfectly so thats why I was wondering.
There seems to be complains about the connect app

As previously mentioned someplace, we're OCD and overly critical about every minor detail. There were software issues with the '19 models when introduced but those appear to be addressed in subsequent releases. Have not noted similar issues with '20 models.

Most "gadget geeks" I know are always trying to tweak/improve something to make it "work perfectly". We have a robust group in this forum.

There definitely can be problems with the connected app although major, on-going problems seem to be confined to specific owners. Rumor has it that a major upgrade to the app will happen this Summer but in my opinion things really won't work smoothly for everyone until the Connected Drive services our brought in-house so BMW has more control.

Not reasons to wait and ID7 has improved a lot since around this time last year, but it is NOT rock solid.

On 11/2019.40, I still get the occasional "BC button stops working" and requires manual reboot. The saved radio station names are still gibberish and can't be fixed. A couple of camera view bugs are still inherent but can at least be sort of fixed by coding. Still can't BT pair non-phone devices that you could on 11/2018.xx (eg any 3.5mm-to-BT interface or Alexa). Weird music non-re-indexing and unstated limits on number of files issues. Navigation makes bizarre routing loops off highways into residential areas and back on for no possible logical reason; and still doesn't speak proper street names in Canada (rather calls them by obscure RR designations that no one knows). Etc. But ...

... I definitely agree that many issues have been fixed, now have workarounds for those willing to spend the energy, or reduced in frequency. ID8, whenever, is just going to restart the bug mountain.

Bottom line - a 2019/2020 car can be updated to whatever version of ID7 you would get on the 2021 car.

The only way there would be a difference is if 2021 has ID8 which is not likely.
