usb flash drive

Ordered my X5 and should be receiving it soon. Wanted to confirm which usb flash drive I can use for music? USB A or USB C? Also, which one do you folks have? 128gb or 256gb?

Thanks in advance.

Both will work. I'm using a 128GB micro USB-A. Works like a charm.

edit: USB-A is in the compartment above the cup holders. USB-C is in the center armrest storage. I use the USB-A for music, using a micro drive - can't even tell it's there. I use the USB-C for charging, when my wife needs to charger her phone.

i gave up trying to get either of my ipods (ipod classic and current Gen 7 ipod touch) to work. downloaded my itunes library to a USB thumb drive and confirmed it works fine playing directly from the drive. i also downloaded the entire library to the cars HDD. working great.

Same for me. I use a 128GB drive - the 256GB worked, played music and functioned normally in iDrive, but didn't remember the last file played when I turned off the car - it always started with the same file when the car was restarted. Others reported this problem as well, but it may be software version-dependent.

I use a 256 GB flash drive as well in the USB-A slot. No problems at all. Remembers last song.

Today I got a 1TB SSD, but unfortunately my G05 wouldn't recognize the device at all. Oddly, my 2016 i8 read it without any problems.

when i downloaded my music to the hard drive i was seeing all info - song title, artist, album title, and artwork. now, i'm only seeing song, artist, and art - no album title. not a huge deal but kind of weird that it was there and now it's not. any ideas?

Do you guys prefer loading music files to iDrive's internal storage?

I think you'll find it's a mixed bag from most folks out here, some just plugging large USB drives with their music in and others downloading to the Gracenote on-board system. (At least on the F15/F16, the iDrive music system was a Gracenote system. I'm assuming that's still the case with the G05/G06.)

I don't get my G06 until next month, but on my F15, I've liked the download feature. I utilize it for a decent amount of my music. I plan on buying a 512GB USB drive and download my iTunes collection to it in .M4A format and then upload that to the Gracenote system on my G06.
